Singvogal-- Ferrets live up trouser legs not on back shelves Last year I checked my renewal (many years with nfu) with l-v at first it seemed very good ,BUT - I found to get similar cover I neede to add on various optional extras. When I finished that I stayed with nfu. While looking for value I value a company that I know ( from experience) will treat my claim fairly, and I can walk into the office to sort any matters out . Nfu are the only insurer I know that does give a "loyalty bonus" if you have been with the while. They also replace a car with new if wrote off in its first two years. And they charge no extra if paying monthly --and I need to have a number of standing orders to keep my interest rate on Santander accounts. I just think it's best to look for an insurer that is a mutual not a profit making company.
No, no - our ferret is a 'cuddly ferret' - we decided to name him Oxymoron - couldn't resist it. We got him years ago on the ferry to France. I think it was some sort of bizarre French sense of humour about the English language. The company was called myFerry - so they were a promotion known as myFerret.
So renewal time (rip-off time) has come around again. Last year I went with Saga who were the most competitive, but their renewal quote was 30% higher (cheeky buggers!). So straight onto the comparison sites and got an excellent quote from AXA at £335, and with lower excess. So I gave Saga a call to tell them that I would not be renewing (just in case they tried auto renewal). They offered an immediate £50 discount, to which I commented "Too late sunshine, you've just lost another customer'. I've given up trying to apply any logic as to how insurance companies operate. I feel sorry for the poor souls that have their insurance set up for auto renewal, but I guess they are paying to keep premiums down for those of us that refuse to be ripped off.
My last car was modified a fair bit, enough that it was a nightmare shopping around and I ended staying with a plan for most of the time I had the car. Mainly as the mods were covered on a like for like basis. On the odd occasion that I could get it slightly cheaper elsewhere a plan did match the price. Now, my F30 is stock (although I plan a bilstein b12 kit to sort out the naff handling) so I ought to find it easier to shop around.
@kleynie £707???? wow i thought yours ws less than mine... My renewal i think little over £700, but i managed to get it down to around £680ish after total of £500 excess... Kev
when i did the shop around this year my basic quote for fully comp was £277.00 and with extras like no claims protection, legal cover, and enhanced hire car it came in at £348,00 so i very happy with that, still not quite as good as my 520 which i insured for £190 during my last year of ownership postcodes certainly do make a big difference
Sum eyewatering costs their...... However, my post is probably worth A N other thread Energy price comparison & Boiler Homecare....... These are worth checking also Having spent circa 20 mins looking at my Electric / Gas supplier, I’ve saved £17.46p / month on a 12 month contract, based on actual consumption over the previous 12months £209.52p Saving Furthering my time on the sofa, My Homecare policy with Scottish Gas is due renewal, £331.67 for the year starting 04th February A couple of taps on the iPad and British Gas offer the same level of cover for £211.86p, so on the phone I get to cancel my policy, listen to the blurb and initially offered a loyalty discount on my account, renewal price reduced to £265.76p, I decline this and ask for a price match to British Gas... more blurb, so I request to proceed with cancellation, to all of a sudden be informed they can price match the £211.86p ineffect saving £119.81p So today in a very short period of time, I have saved £329.33p I’ve yet to check when the Barge is due insurance, however, I fully anticipate an annual policy of <£280 for the me with the wife as a named driver, effectively, free car insurance based on what Joe Public would pay out on other “essentials” I’m proud of my days (<1 hours work!)
I'm also looking at energy costs etc as my current 2 year fixed deals run out shortly so just looking to see whats about as next month is when i can switch without any penalty etc. Unfortunately, prices a fair bit higher than what i'm paying as i managed to get 2 year fixed just before the first price hike 2 years ago and there been probably 2 or 3 since. Kev
Yeah but, no point rushing these things, you had to be sure in your own mind after all! (It so happens that perhaps you needed more time ! )
Yay - I'm a very happy bunny. My renewal with NFU came through today - an increase of only £11 - £410 a year up from £399. First time in my memory that the annual increase has been so low. - and i can pay monthly at no extra cost. That's for Fully Comp, Protected No-Claims, European Cover same as in UK, Free Green Card for unlimited number of foreign journeys, driving other cars, and includes trailer cover too. Doesn't cover any livestock in the trailer though - and has a restriction on carrying shotgun cartridges - only 2000 are allowed.
