    Afternoon all.
My good friend has a newly acquired 330d F31, Modern spec, rather lovely car.
He’s noticed that the rear passenger side carpet is soaking wet after a day of heavy rain, and the car was unused. He was parked on a hill, front end pointing up. I suggested it was either the door seal or the scuttle drains, the door is dry with no signs of water leakage/ingress. The car had a new EGR cooler/valve prior to his collecting in November, the scuttle panel had not been re-fitted properly, the rubber seal was nowhere near the panel. He has looked under the panel and there is a lot of debris down there, leaves etc. I suggest that this is the cause of the leak.

    Any guidance/experience/thoughts on this one?

Here is his view down into the scuttle area:

I’d say windscreen, one of the door membranes or sun roof drains only really way to know is to get the carpets out and get the hose on it though.

Hasn’t got a sunroof so won’t be that. He said the door shuts were dry, but only way of making sure is to pour water down the glass, probably in the corner, then see where it goes.
I’m thinking the front bulkhead is the probable cause, clearly never been cleaned out in its history.

Yes it’s possible, especially having parked on a hill but I’d have thought there would be a pool of water in there still although if it’s just slow draining a big enough downpour could overwhelm the drainage.

He’s taking it back to the supplying dealer today. Dealer said it’s a common thing and has had to clear the front drains on a number of similar cars, so hopefully a fix.
I will suggest he puts one of those dehumidifiers in for a few days, the cheap ones with the beads in the bottom. Needs to get rid of any cabin moisture otherwise it will keep misting up.

He shouldn’t have a problem with moisture as long as the carpets are removed and fully dried. They need to be out of the car for a couple of days to have a chance of drying though.

If not out, definitely need to get under the carpets, as there is space and foam that can fill with water.

I had the grommet issue with my F11, took some drying out even in summer. Can see the lengths I went to in the following thread.

Thanks all. To close this one up, the garage/dealer cleaned the bulkhead drains (and all the accumulated gunk) and all is well. The rain gave it a very good test today, and the carpet is bone dry.
