Has anyone else had any success in getting BMW to fix an error in the RTTI traffic data? My car's been convinced for many months now that an A road near me is closed in one direction, causing the sat nav to try and send me on lengthy detours. The latest suggestion I received from BMW was: I’d recommend doing a Service Update in your BMW, this is done using the iDrive controller. Please make sure you’re following the steps below: • Press ‘Menu’ button • Click on ‘ConnectedDrive’ or ‘BMW Apps’ depending on your menu version • Click ‘Options’ button (next to your iDrive controller) Scroll & select ‘Update BMW services’ click to update. Please allow 24 hours for the refresh to complete. This didn't fix it.
l would say that your problem lies with the RTTI information provider that BMW purchases or gather this information from rather than with BMW themselves somebody collates and uploads local traffic information be it traffic England or traffic Scotland or whoever and this information is then shared by one of the RTTI information providers like DATEX II or here technologies. so l would say that the information provided by the local highway's agency may be where the issue lies and BMW are only sharing the out of date information that they are receiving from here technologies. www.here.com/platform/traffic-solutions/real-time-traffic-information www.here.com/strategic-partners/bmw
I sometimes have a similar issue with google maps etc & i'm sure it's the data supplier that is at fault
I also think the problem is with the data supplier. It's easy to report problems with Google Maps and with TomTom, but there doesn't seem to be any effective mechanism for reporting problems with the BMW RTTI traffic information. It's been reporting that this road has been closed for at least 5 months now.
I had a similar problem a few years ago with a Garmin sat nav. Travelling North up the M6 motorway, at Junction 19, it would route you off up the slip road, around a couple of roundabouts, and back on down the on-slip road again. Even updating the maps didn't change anything. I just ignored it after the first time.
I had a situation recently travelling back from The Forest of Dean (Coleford) where I was routed down on to roundabout where I should have been directed down the M5 for a short distance towards Gloucester. When I arrived at the roundabout, there was only one way: up the M5 (as opposed to down) for about 8 miles (total 16 miles) or so and then back down to Gloucester. I blame the local authorities for not making it clear to the data suppliers that the roundabout was non-functional.
