Over the air map updates / on line entertainment

I have been in lengthy email exchange with BMW CS about the above

They are claiming that the issues with over the air map updates are finally resolved, the system is working as it should do and anybody with this facility should now receive over the air updates....its only taken them almost two years to fix the issue !

Conversely there is now an issue with the on line entertainment feature on many cars, affecting both Deezer and Napster and neither system is currently available on many vehicles, it is a technical issue not a problem with the cars. It has taken BMW CS almost 3 months ro admit to me that it is a technical issue, and they have no intention of advising customers ! It has been "escalated to Germany" and there is no indication as to when the issue will be resolved, but it has been ongoing since December at least

 

They seem to be pushing the BMW online music library recently. Not at all sure why I’d need it as Spotify streams from my phone, I am building a good HD music library, can stream from Amazon Music and there are countless DAB stations available.
I won’t be rushing to purchase the over the air map updates. Still waiting for the Evo maps on mine to be updated past 2020/3..... Not that I’m going anywhere at the moment mind you, so the 2020/1 in the car will be fine.

I have in 20th months of ownership NEVER had an OTA update
For maps only the UK portion is done OTA - (yes I do know that Europe is a no go at the moment)
I have always used BMW Download manager
I live in area where my mobile gets no signal, so have always downloaded mp3s (or rip them from old CDs) and play them from a USB which works really well
and DAB radio us great as well - thought Radio 5 Live does have an intermittent break in transmission for up to 10 seconds - happen to anyone else?

 

I get regular short breaks in transmission whenever i use the DAB radio frequencies.

It might be worth contacting BMW CS re the lack of map updates, they have offered me various 12 month extensions on connected drive packages as a goodwill gesture.
The connected drive store is only offering update 2020/3 for my car. Ive also got an agreement from BMW UK that when it goes in for a service next month they will cover the cost of the dealer updating to 2021/1
