Morning, Picked up the car yesterday (G30 530e) and in the run up to receiving have been trying to get my head around the features, mobile app and so forth, During the test drive my wife's iPhone had no issue to wirelessly display CarPlay (wireless being a big upgrade over the RRS wired). and fits into the wireless charging bay. My Samsung S20+ Ultra is connected to the car, but not with Android Auto which I understand is being rolled out. Has it been rolled out Europe wide or country by country? Googling seems to bring up that it is being introduced or then retrofits for older / other cars Questions: What does LCI mean? Where can I find which version of iDrive that the car has? I have the BMW connected app and My BMW app, both seem to be similar but in different design? Are they both needed? Maps are updating, the car was on 2019-3 and I found from the website 2020-3, which also tells me OTA updates don't really work. The car showed me a video on adding widgets, where can I find a list of widgets? Sorry for all the basic questions.
What does LCI mean? Life cycle impulse - essentially refers to updates to a model range. Where can I find which version of iDrive that the car has? With your iDrive navigation open, use the settings menu to scroll to "Navigation system version", where you will see the region, version and year of your current GPS data That was the best I could find :/ I have the BMW connected app and My BMW app, both seem to be similar but in different design? Are they both needed? I think the BMW app will be superseding the connected app eventually from what I have read in the past, if you were to delete one I would delete the connected app but that is just me and my opinion. The car showed me a video on adding widgets, where can I find a list of widgets? I mean he classes himself as a genius so he can be trusted... right But I think widgets are dependant so best to just see what you have via the above.
Perfect. Thanks for those answers. Just the updating of the maps is taking forever. It's been in the Download manager unzipping to a flash drive for the past 4.5 hours and is still only at 79%..... cheers
The Download manager always takes it's time - my downloads have always been over an hour, but never over 2 hours I think you are better to save it to your PC rather than flash drive as the write speed is slower to a USB
Trying again for the 3rd time, downloaded it last night to my Mac, and then realised it only has 2 USB-C ports so couldn't plug a flash drive in. So did that today, and it was unzipping for 6 hours before failing. Still wasn't able to find the iDrive version, didn't have that option in Navigation, but comparing to youtube videos, it's the 7.0 version.
Did you unzip the files on the mac it self or did you move the zip file to the USB and then unzipped it (or specified the USB as the output for file?) - USBs can be very slow to write to.
I moved the zip file to the USB and it unzipped as it moved. Next time i'll unzip to a folder on the laptop and then transfer it all across.
Worth a try, MACs sometimes struggle a little with windows based files, but in theory should unzip quickly...
all done now and installation was quick enough.. now to see when 2020-4 version will show up. How many profiles can be created in the car, i currently have Steve and Guest. i tried to create one for the wife, which required her to sign in to BMW Connected Drive. but she couldn't make her own account with the car vin as it was registered to my email. and she couldn't create a profile in the car with my connected log in - threw up errors.
