I've read somewhere (I think!) that you can set up in-car SMS notifications but have no idea where to start, any ideas anyone? If it helps I have an iPhone 5s, prof media with EBT. Thanks!

Same here - this has got me stumped too. Used to work on my preLCi F10 which had enhanced Bluetooth and pro nav but cannot get it to work in this one, also pro nav. Curiously, I didn't spec enhanced Bluetooth on this one but I can connect up to 4 phones and stream audio from while whilst having a different one set up to make and receive calls. Puzzling!

From memory just bluetooth your phone to the car, then when you receive a text it appears in the screen.

You need to have specced EBT.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

Don't think it's as simple as that as I've done that already. I've discovered that you need to go to Bluetooth on your phone, select the blue i symbol next to your car which in my case is BMW 6***2 which then opens up a sub-menu. Then make sure that Show Notifications is on. Come out of that and go to Notifications, scroll down to Messages and select Alerts. I haven't tried this yet so it may not be the end of it yet!

Well having two teenage sons who are into IT helps.
Just seems to work straight out of the box, but then they spend a few hours playing with the car when it first arrived.

    You can keep them!

The dealer has an equivalent, they are all 13 with acne and have the title Genius on their shirts.

The message doesn't appear in full on the screen straight away.
If you receive a text whilst in the car you will get the normal audible alert on your phone.
A small unopened envelope symbol then appears in the top of the media screen.
Press the Tel' hard key and scroll down to messages and the text will be there.
Short texts are readable on the move.
If the sender has written 'War and Peace' the message is only displayed in full whilst stationary.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

It worked on my 640 towards the end, after a lot of trying an not succeeding.
Infact I think one day a passenger said whats that symbol, and low and behold a message was received, and I got the car to read it back to me.

I cant recall what happened to make it work, maybe it was when I changed from an Iphone 5 to a 5s last November. It will work but sorry I just cant remember how I got it to.

It depends on whether your phone is compatible. My old blackberry (and my wife's current blackberry) displayed and read emails and texts, however my (newer) current Nokia Windows phone will only read texts. It won't display texts and won't read or display emails at all.

There used to be a page within the bmw site that detailed compatibility of most phones, however I've just done a search and can't find it.

Maybe someone will come along who knows where it is.

Do you mean this page here?

    https://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/support/mobile-devices/compatibility.html

I've been spending a lot of time on the Support and the Discover pages recently. :D

If that link doesn't help the the best answer would perhaps be to have a live chat with a BMW genius - I've had a chat with quite a few now. :p

I don't think your phone has anything to do with emails. I am under the impression that they come to the car via your service provider.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

It was similar to this but also detailed 'Office' (test/email) compatibility and also had a greater number of phones.

You can set emails to come via the car sim (I've never bothered too) - apologies if this is what the OP is referring to. I was referring to functionality via Bluetooth.

Well after doing what I suggested above I got an in-car SMS last week. Still have to do as Carl W suggested but at least it seems to work now!
