If you get bored at the TC you can always pop next door to the five storey glass palace of Williams to have a look round.

Well dusted the CTEK off today for a decent charge, MINI battery went flat yesterday and sods law I needed it to get in to the office.

A quick 30 minute charge sorted it to start and a longer scenic route to the office allowed it to start at end of day.

Hopefully I can get a few more decent charges out the now approaching 8.5 year old battery.

I keep thinking about plugging in the X5 but with the hybrid battery and technology, I’m a little nervous about doing so and need to do a good read up on whether there’s a special protocol necessary.

Only just got my CTEK back after my son “borrowed” it.

Well it was ‘charging’ for the best part of 4 days. Twice I checked the charger and it failed to reach that last light.

Now I recall someone maybe mentioning that if you unlock the car, it wakes it up in the ECU and footwell control modules etc and hence the last light disappearing, or I’m putting it down to the batter age.

Mine needs to be on charge for around a week undisturbed before the last (8th) light illuminates

Did it get to 7? If so it’s fine. Number 8 is a trickle charge, so for that to illuminate, the battery would have to loose a little charge to then be topped up. Number 7 has a time limit of 10 days according to the manual.

Yes number 7 it was at.

MINI started on the button today so all is good, we just need to remember to use her more often now :driving:

Popped the CTEK on the F32 this morning as I’ve only managed shorter runs in the car recently, using heated seats etc.

As I suspected the initial reading shows the battery is low, looks like it needs a good few hours.

You want to leave it on charge till you at least get to '7' which is fully charged, the '8' as others have highlighted is a 10 day assessment of slight discharge and recharge as a 'rest' that your battery is good holding a charge over 10 days, if you can wait that long for it!.

I’m pretty sure it will always start charging on 2 whether the battery is really low or fully charged.

How long it stays on 3 (the bulk charge) will give a good idea of how low the battery SoC.

For me, when I give my battery a boost, 3 is usually between 30 mins and a couple of hours, before moving to 4 (~80 SoC).

90 mins later and it was on 4, so moving along as I’d hope.

Four hours or so to get up to the green number 7. Happy with that.
