    Hi All

Would have thought this would have been covered but can't immediately see it. I have had my F80 M3 Comp for a year now and absolutely love the car. But had a short window of opportunity to px it for a year old G80 x drive with 2,800 miles. In the end the BMW Dealer wanted full dollar for the G80 and the px was a bit naff considering the F80 values have not dropped by much at all. I reckon I will get a G80 eventually. A few comments.

Can you get used the grill.
Why are there 20" wheels on the back ad 19" front, did not like that look.
Prefer the seats in the F80.
Yes the G80 is quick, it's like driving mine on comfort for a while then sticking it in sport +
I felt the G80 wasn't as agile and a little softer, just my view.
I didn't like the digital display.
Did like the position of the start /stop, they way I have mine set up you can't see it!

Would welcome some views / comments, happy to be shot down!

Unfortunately I can’t comment upon a direct F80/G80 level, I’m sure Mystic will come along and give you his thoughts on his RWD G80 soon enough.
However, I did move from an F32 440i to a G22 M440i, so a similar transition in terms of one model to the other.
The grill has actually grown on me in a many ways, sure isn’t offensive anymore, and I did think that when I first saw the G22.
The F32 felt more alive in terms of the driving experience, some of that was down to the slightly jittery ride (run flats possibly), some down to the Fx chassis limitations. The G2x is a totally different level in terms of ride, comfort and grip
The front end is incredible, I can only imagine what the G80/82 is like.
However, maybe too good? The xDrive and a brilliant chassis gives it crazy amounts of grip, so much so that you have to push harder to get a sense of fun. If that makes any sense.
Overall the new car is light years ahead of its sibling, very glad I made the change.

I have driven both, had a lot of M’s and own a G80.

the G80 is a huge step forward over the F80 platform. The chassis has so much grip in it and can get the power down in a way that the F80 could only dream of and that is in both RWD and of course Xdrive.

The turn in is so crisp and the front end grip is phenomenal and I know you own an F80 so please don’t be offended but the interior is no where near as nice and well finished as the G80.

Consider the G80 a smaller M5. It’s quality is reflected (unfortunately) in its price.

The looks are subjective and I hated it at first but once I saw it in the metal I thought it looked epic.

In short I love the thing. It is a firm step forward in every area.

But, the F80 is still a bloomin epic looking and performing car and I love it. And in Sakhir with black interior looks delicious.

The only other car I have owned that has got as much attention was my E60 M5. The G80 really does get (at times unwanted) attention.

Mine is a darker grey so kind of blends in a little but in the brighter shades is quite the statement.

    Thanks again

We'll I did say I would get a G80 at some point, well not picked it up yet but just put a deposit on a nearly new G80 Xdrive. I think i'm going to be living on bread and water for a while!

A few quick questions questions. They said high specification but it has Comfort Access (which I need to turn off due to key cloning), heating steering wheel (who pays for that?), electric boot lid, tracker and deletion of wireless charging. Re the latter I understand that non of the BMW have that due to lack of parts which is a shame as my phone charges wirelessly.

My point is that to me is not high spec but M cars are pretty specked up as standard so is this just BMW dealer spiel?

    Thanks.

Are you able to put up a link to the car here?

There are some out there with odd levels of trim, like the one you are buying, wireless charging seems to have dropped off in a few I’ve looked at. Assume this is a chip/spec issue at the time of buying.
The comfort access can’t be turned off, believe me I have tried! I’ve turned mine off as in the opening when you walk up to the car, but I am still able to hold the door handle and the car will then open. A decent faraday pouch and a steering lock would be my suggestion, exactly what I do.
I believe that the heated steering wheel is part of a comfort pack, I had to spec Comfort+ on my G22 to get that, electric boot opening and electric/memory seats. Sounds like yours would have that.
Can’t 100% for sure say that is the same for the G80, as you say, they are generally every well specced to start with.

Going from an F to a G is a big step up on any of the series.

I have a G20 but many of the upgraded features are common to all models these days.

I didn't think I would like the digital display, but after a couple of weeks with it, and exploring the myriad of options and widgets, I now love it.

I agree with @Wynne71 regarding the Comfort Access - I've also turned off the unlocking/locking as I approach/walk away from the car, but the handle touch is still working.

Very annoyingly, lots of cars built during the chip shortage will have random features deleted (entfall in German on the VIN decode) such as the wireless charging, the digital key, or even lumbar support or seat width adjustment.

My iDrive Controller doesn't have the touch /write feature - that's no big loss in the UK, unless of course you're left-handed.

The G has is better optioned in standard trim over the F. But, it seems that unless you were told then you only have the comfort pack.

there are easy ways to spot other options such as laser lights and tech pack etc.

Put your new vin in the vin decoder website and post up the output it gives.

Enjoy the G, been out in mine today and it is a riot. Can see me keeping this longer than normal as other than an F90 (and that is no longer made obviously) there is absolutely nothing that BMW offers these days that interests me and that includes the fugly M2 - and that comes from a G80 owner lol.

My F80 is Silverstone Blue with black leather, I wanted Skyscraper Grey (what a name) or Black both with two tone light leather. My F80 had 39k on the clock, this has 1,900 so will give me a bit more freedom, not that I used to restrict myself as just back from break in North Wales, those Welsh roads were great albeit a tad narrow!

Shame about the comfort access but I have faraday pouches and a steering lock already, one of those things. It has review camera which I assume is also standard.

Yes the digital display will take some getting used too. Will put the vin decoder in when I get it.

    Hi All

Got the G80 today, drove it back from Cambridge, I live in London. I'll be honest I was a big sceptic but what a car. The F80 was great but this is epic, there is so much more that BMW have put into it. The power difference is very noticeable and not even tried Sport + yet. I was on my way to BMW on the M11 this morning and still had doubts about whether I was doing the right thing, I have a big smile on my face now! Don't get me wrong, I was very attached to my F80 and really liked the car but . . .

My day to day setting is sport plus for engine, sport for brakes, sport steering and comfort suspension and gearbox in number 1 and it is perfect. I find the suspension in sport plus is too harsh for everyday but when in “getting on it mode” press m2 which is everything at its highest setting apart from steering in sport and it brutal and demolishes what is ahead of it.

Love mine, it is a proper weapon and I smile every time I get in it.

    Enjoy it for many miles.

@ Mystic Sport, not set it up yet but that sounds like a plan, here's a pic. There is good news and bad news, the car is still epic, now the bad. I have never kerbed an alloy since I had a Mk 1 Escort RS2000 fitted with a limited slip diff. Got a bit excited going round a roundabout in the wet and went into a spin and damaged one of the alloys. That was in 1994. Look what I did, I always park 6 inches from the kerb but was in a rush Sunday. My last one the alloys were mint and stayed that way all the time I owned it. The question do I get it repaired, local firm said they will do it for £95 plus VAT with the proper paint etc. But they said even if the damage is minor, which it is, they will take all the paint off and respray it to the exact colour BMW use.

    Thoughts please?

PS yes I am an idiot!

I feel your pain. I did the most minor kerb damage on my near side rear but it is the polished 825 wheel. I don’t want it repaired and it is barely noticeable but as I don’t want the lip profile to be different to the rest at some point I am stumping up £1080 for a new rear

Ouch! They are going to take all the paint off and respray it, seems hardly worth it. It's not the money at all when you spend that much on the car itself. I feel like just going to B&Q, get some masking tape and some gloss black car spray! They need 2-3 days and will give me a spare wheel while they sort it. The other option is they keep the car, no chance of that!

Ouch. The first cut is always the deepest. My sympathies....

Not as expensive as your wheels for sure, but I did the same to my NS front a month after buying the G22. Waited until last month to get it repaired, to be fair to Sytners bodyshop they did a good job. Mine are diamond cut though, possibly easier to repair.

Fingers crossed you can get yours sorted with as little pain as possible.

    Great looking car.
