Just got the following from my local dealer (Stratstone in Chesterfield) Just wondering how useful this is, or if it's a sneaky way for stratstone just try to sell me a new warranty. The car is due the first MOT in Jan, and so first break fluid change then as well. Given they're saying it's free, a useful pre-mot checkover? I don't remember getting the same treatment from Marshall with my last one. It's on a lease, so the odds on me having it for the full 4th year are slim currently, it might even just get handed back if the equity is hugely negative.
Ive had it (not with Stratsone) , no attempt by the dealer rto sell a new warranty. Its also on the I drive so unless you get it reset it will show as a missed service..
when mine went in for end of warranty check there was no up sell or no mention of any thing like tyres are close to wear limit just a good chec over and my dealer even comped my first MOT at the time the end of warranty check so l was very happy so the end of warranty check gets a from me but you may not get the same experience at every dealers
Cheers for that, has put my mind at rest. Will sort out booking it as soon as allowed.. Which could be a month from now I am guessing due to bumbling Boris and his imminent announcement about another lock down of some kind.
I agree - it's not been any sort of con in my experience - more of a goodwill enhancer. I had several items replaced under warranty that I'd overlooked such as the little covers on the Isofix child seat fixings which were loose.
you may find that garages are going to be allowed to stay open through this one but only time will tell
Yeah, paid my few quid help get her 558 into the air back in the day, saw her a few time at Waddington, RIAT. Saw a few vulcans many years ago as a kid when they were still active. Ex's dad worked on them, arming the "instant sunshine" on alert bombers etc. Can't beat it for class and elegance.. and noise!
l chased XH558 the length and breadth of the country from October 2007 until October 2015 and l was at the last public display at Gaydon in Warwickshire. in 2008 l was getting frustrated trying to see my first full display after the return to flight she never made it to Cosford or kemble she flew at Waddington so l was hopeful for RlAT 2008 where l would get to see her display twice but the rain put paid to that and the show was rained off t was late September at Duxford where l saw my first Vulcan display since 1992 picture from RlAT 2010
It was interesting reading these stories, so here is one of my own. When I was young, my dad was in the airforce and stationed at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus where the Vulcans were based. There was a Squadron Leader there whose party trick was to loop the loop and I remember the fantastic noise the Vulcans made. Fast forward many years and I saw the last Vulcan fly at Farnborough and Goodwood FOS in 2013. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's a very small world. My uncle was stationed at RAF Akrotiri for many years working on Vulcans. He was later at RAF Kinloss before he retired. At least one member of the forum was also stationed at RAF KInloss. And so the links between us go on. Quite a few of our forum members were / are in the uniformed services .................
Indeed a very small world. I was stationed at RAF Lossiemouth for a while in the 1980's and detached to Akrotiri in the 1960's and the 1980's.
I was there between 1969 and 1972, so a long time ago and I was very young Of course ex service personnel can benefit from discounts on new BMWs..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interesting, my dad will have been in Germany then. Pretty sure Laarbruch, but I may be wrong. Not sure if he was a Chief Tech by then, but that was his rank when he left in about 1974. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I priced an M340i and the best price from coast to coast was about 11% off, whilst through BMW was equal to 15% off. From what I have read, the deals are supposed to be very good and are offered through Park Lane who are apparently owned by BMW UK. https://www.bmw-ukforces.co.uk/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I bought my G30 through the scheme, the deal was significantly better than any of the local dealers, Drive the deal, Coast to Coast etc could do (four figure sum) even after adding the cost of driving from N Yorks to Park Lane to collect. I had an overnight stay just outside the M25 on the way down, so i was fresh to drive the new car back. The 200 mile trip home was a useful way to gently bed everything in at varying speeds etc. They do offer delivery to your home address at an additional cost. Part Ex on the X3 was also fair, i sent lots of photos of it in advance, they gave it a cursory look 9ver when i arrived and confirmed it yad been well looked after. They gave me 3 quotes cash sale, PCP and HP, no hard sell, but did xay the figures eere non negotiable. The G30 was prepped well, they have a seperate building just round the corner from the Park Lane showroom. I would certainly use them again. They did tell me that they can also do a deal on any used car in stock at a BMW dealership, as Park Lane is actually owned by BMW UK...never tried the used car route. The salesman i dealt with still works there according to the website, if anybody wants his details.
Thanks for the replies @edthefed and @535i MSport - all noted. I actually bought my first BMW back in 1982 from Park Lane which was a 'collect in Munich' deal which they organize along with all the diplomatic special sales. I confess ignorance of the Ex-Services possibilities.
I was at RAF Bruggen (Elmpt Flugplatz as the locals called the place) from 1962 to 1965 as a Corporal Engine Fitter. The squadron (213) was detached to Wildenrath for 6 months in 1964 because of runway being refurbished. Part of the squadron was detached to Akrotiri for 1 month December 1964. I was at Lossiemouth (lived in Elgin - Hermes rd near the Bonnie Earl pub) 1983 to 1984 and I was the Flight Sergeant in charge of 8 Sqn (Shackelton AEW). Flew to Akrotiri again this time in the Shackleton (28 flying hours) and was detached there for 6 weeks.
