So I've been running Thinkware Q800Pro dashcams in both vehicles for a while now (since the Macan). When I bought them, I was lead to believe they were amongst the best around. Only this morning, whilst out in the van on the school run, this happened. I'm astonished that there was no impact and we got off scott free - I was adamant I'd send it to Essex Police upon my return home but looking at the video in all kinds of ways, I just can't get anywhere close to getting an index number. So the question is, before I spend money getting my local Auto Electrician to hardwire in my other Q800Pro into the Disco5, would any other cameras be better / clearer at closing speeds of c. 80-90mph?
I've got the Nextbase (Front and rear), they seem ok, only had to use it once since i have had it when someone reversed into my car, but otherwise the quality seems good. I can't find any videos on my work pc, so i'll try and remember to upload some from the home one and send you the link so you can see the quality. Mine is about 3 or so years old now, so there may be better quality versions available. Mine is hardwired too, but goes off 20 minutes after the car is locked.
I've been using Transcend Drive-Pro cameras front and rear for several years now. 32GB cards in both and set to highest resolution with 5 minute clips. No complaints, and very easy to download to a smartphone using Bluetooth.
I have a Thinkware U1000. The front camera is 4k with the rear camera being 2K. After fitting it to my X3, I then transferred it to my Audi Q5 and in 2022 I transferred it to my Mercedes EQB 300 EV. Because it is 4K and there is a lot of data, it gives 1 minute time periods It would be worth looking at reviews, to see whether it suits your needs. I think there is review on Blackbox. I only suggest this because the wiring might be the same as the Q800 Pro. There again it might not.
I use a Viofo A139 3 channel and have changed the lens on the interior camera to give a little bit of zoom then use it to supplement the front camera. the interior camera hasnt quite got the same resolution as the front main camera but with the tele lens it just grabs the plates that bit better. I have uploaded some example videos. In the dark it has a bit more difficulty but all cameras do. I can recommend Dash Cam Forum - DashCamTalkdashcamtalk.com › forum if you want to know just about everything there is to know about dash cams. I have sent the videos of mine to this wetransfer if anybody wants to download them, expires 2nd April.
I highly rate Blackvue cameras. I have one in the D5 and I’ve literally today taken delivery of another, to replace the aging MINI OEM camera. I order from their refurbished store to save a few ‘££, these carry same warranty as new. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
