Connected traffic, any good?

In your NAV settings you should have the option of full Dynamic Routing where the system will automatically change the route; or Dynamic Routing with Approval, where you decide whether to accept the route changes. I have only ever used the latter option because the automatic option will change the route to save a couple of minutes. Sat Navs are a useful tool, but they don't incorporate common sense.

In our newly acquired (2016) car, the RTTI is still active along with the other bits, the maps are showing as updated to 2020 v2.

I am guessing this will all stop when the previous owners original subscription ends next year as the paperwork shows it had a five year servicing/warranty package, unless the dealer put one year on it as an approved used model ?

Being new to the marque I have no idea really.

 

If you create a new connectedDrive account on line and fill in all your details for the car, then go to the car and link it to that account in the iDrive, you will find out when each service expires, and the annual cost to extend.

On a slightly different note, Connected Drive can be a bit hit and miss, seems to be a lot of issues being reported on down time.

I'm in the middle of a problem with mine at present. The technical guys are promising a solution by the 29th October. The Online Service has been down since 22 September, when it was messed up due to failure to reactivate correctly. Still wasn't working when I checked it yesterday. A known issue apparently.

Anyone else had something like this.

Yes, I found the app a bit weird. It unlocked the car, but wouldn't lock it again. Least it has a nice pic of it in the correct colour in case I forget which one it is in a car park. Oh the location shows it is in Berlin too.

 

Have you got location active on the instance settings?

 

My car used to always be in Central London, each time I loaded the map, according to Connected Drive.

Just checked and it is showing as outside my home. Double checked by looking out of the window... yes it is there.

Think I had to change some settings a while back. Plus we've had a new transmission mast put up near to home. Now the car gets Connected Drive communication at home. Used to require going at least a mile from home, to get any route maps or messages.

just opened my app and car is shown as in Hessle on the outskirts of Hull so l hit the refresh button and the car is now in my next door neighbours house so close enough

 

That's just bad parking.

All working today... at last.

At least BMW have, as said, resolved the issue by the end of October.
