    Me again....questions again....

I’ve searched high and low, I’ve even read the manual, but can’t seem to find a definitive answer to the question about the mirrors.
I do have electric memory driver seat but don’t have folding mirrors. Should my passenger side mirror dip when I select reverse? If so, what do I need to do? Doesn’t seem to work.

If they are not folding mirrors, the near side won’t dip.

That’s what I had read, however, others have said they should work with memory seats.

Just nipped outside to check, with the mirror switch on the passenger (near) side it doesn’t dip. I tried the switch on the drivers (off) side and it works!! Bizarre.

    Happy that it works though.

Yes, I found the same on our vehicle, the switch needs to be the opposite way to what you'd think.

I thought it was only Citroen that did things like that. o_O

Interesting. Are you sure they don’t fold?

The fold button isn’t on the door card panel, but will go and hold the button now.....

    Nope.

Windows go up/down with a second hold of the open/close buttons, same as the E92, but nothing with the mirrors.
Retrofit and coding seems like a right PITA so won’t be bothering.

Ah, German design and engineering. :)

It is one of the things that got me into BMW, many years ago. I think the same way as the German engineer. Makes total sense to me, to default active functions to the Driver.

As another example, I appreciate the way BMW modernised the wiper controls a couple of generations of BMW ago. Many users couldn't understand it, how the Auto worked (not active until the driver switched it on), and positions that allowed a single flick downwards while in Auto mode. To my mind, correctly switched functions. BMW have changed it in the current models. To me a backwards move, as now the intermittent is all wrong for Auto control.

I've a theory on why it may be fine and logical for me, based on my time with many engineers.

How funny. I had always seen the folding mirrors being required for the dipping passenger mirror. Perhaps it comes automatically with memory seats? I know when I ordered my 535i new, there were some odd option dependencies.

I think it did come as a 'bundle' in early F3x models. but changed at some point in the life cycle, (possibly LCI). Caught other users out on speccing their cars.

Nope, blanked button, only the mirror selector switch.
Mines a 2017 model so an LCI model, oddly doesn’t at anything about this in the downloaded manual.

My f30 is a pre-lci late 2014 model, non power folding mirrors, but the passenger mirror dips on reverse. But it does have memory seats.

From what I'd read elsewhere you needed either folding mirrors or memory seats to get the mirror to dip on reverse.

On my e91 I think you needed folding mirrors to get the dip on reverse feature as the standard mirrors didn't work on the LIN bus.

I think if u slide the mirror button to the left then your passenger mirror should dip when reversing,It does on mine 2013 428i model and has memory seats.

I have the folding mirrors and find the switchable passenger side dipping function to be very useful. I only need that when reversing around a corner to avoid the kerb. Most of the time I want the door mirrors in the normal position for reversing, So I would say that BMW have got that option right.

The only criticism I have is that most controls have to be reselected every time the car is started from cold, which is a pain. On my previous Golf GTi, most previous settings were remembered - so that for things like heated seats and intermittent wipers, you didn't need to keep selecting them every time. Also the heated seats had 5 settings which was perfect.
