I'll have to email then. Didn't realise maps weren't updating over the air. I paid for the professional service. However I think they have a cheek to charge over £200 for apple car play

OTA has never worked for me
and that way you only get UK ( not Europe, not a big deal as none of us are going there at the moment !)
PS I am still getting my free version as car is under 3 years old

In my F31 2015 OTA updates DID work although I paid a subscription with BMW Connected for the capability. A few times I see it working as came up with an icon when updating. However, in the last few months this option was no longer available for the car but as I was selling it didn't bother me. Now have the 550 Touring I have put Carplay and not bothered about whether the BMW sat nav works in any of my cars. Really think BMW scored an own goal the way they have gone with the subscriptions. I understand Porsche offer an OEM retro fit to cars backs to the the early '00s to bring tech upto date?

The BMW annual subscription cost me last year £159, for one year. The touchscreen CarPlay unit I installed cost me £210 including delivery, no ongoing fees, no brainer. That all said BMW Connected were very helpful when I called them on a few occasions so might be worth a call to them, number in the app is 0800 561 0555, thats BMW Assist.

I've managed to get the map downloaded. I've attached a screenshot of the file. I've unzipped it.

It's supposed to automatically go into map update when the car is on. Doesn't do anything even though the usb is on and the unzipped file is on the memory stick.

Also attached screenshot of root drive from USB Stick.

Any ideas which way the files are supposed to be?

    Any help appreciated!

You just need to lose the Road_Map_EVO_Europe_2021-1 folder.

Put the folder/files contained therein directly in the root directory

Thanks. Its now asking for an activation code. I think it may be a trip to the dealer once lockdown is over. Can't spend my days wasting time on this. Have better things to do. Thank you for your help.

Mine car is under 3 years old so has never asked for an activation code - maybe that's why yours is
btw OTA, if it does work, only gives the UK (not Europe - yes I do know we can't go there at the moment !)

As @pje16 says the OTA updates are just the UK portion - not a full European update.

All of the map update methods have been or still are a pain and non-user-friendly.

    Even the USB types.

The updates are not made available for all cars / models /sat-nav versions at the same time - that I can just about accept, due to possibly overloading the download systems.

But there are periods when maps are not made available for prolonged periods.

Once upon a time there were three or four updates every year - but not so these days.

A couple of years ago I went for nearly two years without any updates being made available for USB via the Download Manager - despite having a fully paid up subscription.

I eventually gave up on the official BMW route and now purchase them from a trusted source in Munich.

Activation codes are available from many sources - the Bay of E being but only one.

I believe there are those on the forum who go one better and obtain both updates and activation codes free of charge - allegedly,

(Says he to avoid any possible legal repercussions)
