The warranty will cover the diagnostics fee if they find the underlying fault is covered by the warranty. Diagnostics = plug it into a lap top read the codes.
And they already are plugged in to the car to do the service history update, so not exactly £156 worth of work to do a scan is it ? I bet they do a full scan anyway so they can say "Look what chargeable fault we found while doing our comprehensive 300 point check"
Exactly, I expect part of the Vehicle check service costing £62.35 which includes this: A full inspection of your vehicle is carried out All fluids will be checked and topped up if required All wheels and tyres will be checked for damage, wear and tyre pressure All electrical systems and lights will be checked for damage and correct set up Headlights will be adjusted if required All seat belts will be checked for wear and safe operation A road test will be carried out if required Relevant service light reset Recommended after first 3 years from first registration then every 2 years thereafter Point 1 being pertinent, doesn't state if electrical diag or visual, I expect the latter. Also, I wonder if they'll top up the Ad Blu fluid?! I should've taken a note of the Ad Blue menu and refuel quantity. I also had to point out on the phone about the headlights, which was on my note to them being too low. She said they'll check but charge if adjusted, I said no-it states you'll adjust if required! I'll also be checking that they replaced the Air and Microfilter as I don't think they'll be too bad visually having been done by myself in August/September 2020!
This service is otherwise known as a quick swiz round you car, 2 mins on the laptop and that's £63 quid please...
My local deales labour rate is £145 an hour. That gives an indication of how long BMW think this "service" should take, and includes time for the technician to find the car in the car park, move it to the workshop, read the job card, do the work, do a road test if required return the car to the car park, and do the paperwork.! Interesting that they are now saying 3 years from registration it used to be 4.and that the "service" is now due at the time of the first MoT. And of course they check wheels, tyres, lights, seatbelts at the MoT but get the "service" and MoT done st the same time and they charge you for both !
I did get sent a video which i will cherish given the cost! Common things pointed out which is the undercarriage, tyres, brakes and suspension, all good apart from they did pick up on my puncture repair and also the fact a little bit of the tyre cord was showing. They called to tell me but didn't have a price to replace the tyre as that's a size they don't commonly stock! So I said leave it for now, but now it's niggling at the back of my mind to get done in case it blows out when on a dual carriageway or motorway. I may email the service representative to say the Ad Blu wasn't filled up and I 'thought' all fluids would be topped up, which they'll probably point out is not covered! All things said, was lovely to be back behind the wheel of her and if I didn't get that feeling, she'd be getting replaced with a cheap ease whilst the values are still riding high
A little bit of cord….? Did they have a photo or have you seen it? I’d be getting that changed asap if it were my car. You’ve got to love those videos! I’d watched mine before the invoice had come over.
I've seen a video, I will get a better photo of it when I remember. I'm not in the right mind to change it at the moment. I still have an itch to scratch about replacing the car which I can't quite shrug off yet and just see as an increased unnecessary expense. I totally get that it could be a safety issue and potential MOT fail (if they too pick up on it). In other news, I've emailed the service advisor (copying in the Manager who emailed and offered to have feedback to to his own inbox) to advise that the service failed to surpass expectations, covering: Not filling the Ad Blu fluid up Calling me to say the Brake fluid doesn't need doing, when it is due next month Charging for a Vehicle check and it not including a simple scan of the vehicle (ref the ad Blu fault) Not checking the headlight levels **Edit whilst typing this post, I already received a call to apologise. Car is now booked in 28th to go over the above. It's having a free diagnostic check now!**
The trouble with running a tyre with a bit of cord showing is 3 points and a very large fine if stopped by the police. Also have an accident, even if it’s not your fault and your insurance company will void your policy meaning no payout.
Well the X5 has gone in for it's remedial points of the Vehicle Check Service Ad Blu topped up Headlights checked 'again'! Also for the Brake fluid to be done and they will investigate the Ad Blu warning fault. I have been given a fabulous 550i though as a loaner! Oh my goodness, what a beauty (apart from the colour)! It'll also give me the chance to test drive the new 5's and see how much room there is in the back with the 2 child seats together and the not so short lanky teen boy.
Now that is a result! Best loan car I’ve ever heard of. Enjoy it. I’m sure that engine is a peach. My 550i was a NA rather than twin turbo but the effortless delivery I’m sure will be sublime. The 5er is a wonderful car. Hope it works for the 3 kids.
