Autumn break to Malaga, plenty of car content..!
Over the past few years Mrs W and I have spent some of our autumn breaks in the Lake District, always stunning at this time of year, changing colours of the leaves, trees and landscape is stunning. However, this year we decided to cram a visit in to one weekend, hence us going to Windmere and Little Langdale last weekend.
The reason for such a short visit was because we had booked a trip to Malaga for the main autumn get away. A little warmer weather and a reasonably short flight all added up to us making the decision to go there. Most people will see Malaga as an airport stop off to other parts of the Costa Del Sol, but I had heard some great things about the city, so we booked a hotel for three nights, a Jet2 flight from East Midlands and headed over there. Jumped in the BMW at silly-o-clock on Sunday morning, arrived at the Short Stay One car park, through security and into the lounge for breakfast. Great flight over, landed, jumped in an Uber and we were at the hotel for 1pm... -
M440i Gran Coupe
So after much deliberation and looking at various cars from lightly used Porsche Taycan’s to BMW 840i GC I have bought a 2023 M440i Xdrive Gran Coupe trading in my trusty 2018 640d GC.
My 640d was a great car, luxurious, economical and fast when required but it was like a reverse tardis – big on the outside but relatively small on the inside. That said I owned two of them for over 8 years and they could still carry quite a load transporting both my sons and their paraphernalia to and from university over the years and proving great for longer holidays in Europe, Scotland and the South of England. But after 8 years I felt a change was required. The Taycan is an impressive beast but the electric range on all but the latest ones is pretty poor and for the admittedly small number of times a year I do 250 miles + in a day I probably could manage but it would still be a pain.
On the 840i GC they offer no noticeable benefit over the 640d GC and the extended BMW warranty is over £2.5K... -
