Extended Warranty Offer

Not sure if/when I'll go for a warranty. Car is on 82k miles so presuming I do the same annual mileage I'll hit 100k by next Christmas. I'd obviously have to commence the policy before I hit that magic number as after that I could only take out Driveline and that'd cost more than Named Component costs now.

 

For the level and quality of cover offered, I think the BMW offer is still unbeatable.

And if your car should develop one of those phantom, inconsistent issues (usually electrical) that take hours and hours to hunt down, sometimes over multiple dealer visits, you're going to be glad of it. Got Xenons or LED's? Have you checked the cost of replacing a misted up unit?

I pay the first £100. I'm beginning to think I might as well go for zero excess, since it's getting close to £100 now, just pull the bonnet release!

 

I'm not able to choose zero excess. Is that only for policies below 60k miles?

 

Totally agree Harry, even at £900 its a great policy for peace of mind if nothing else.

 

Another way of looking at the "should I shouldn't I" of an extended warranty after 3 years is that the first owner of the car will have already paid for the first three years warranty in the purchase price of the car. If you continue owning the car after three years are you happy to discontinue warranty cover which you were happy enough to pay (in advance) for the first three years? Since I managed to get 24% off the new price of the car, I feel I now have some surplus funds to pay for the extended warranty. I signed up yesterday. I take Harry's point about adaptive LED lights....

Having said that I happened to bump into my old E46 330i yesterday. I owned it from new (Dec 2002 until Dec 2006) and paid for three years extended warranty without claim. Chatting to the new owner, apart from service items, tyres and brakes, his only expense has been a leaking screen wash bottle. The car is now 16 years old and that non turbo petrol straight six still sounds fantastic and the Xenons still light up the road...

Yes man maths is usually brought into play when trying to justify an unnecessary purchase. However, I am not sure if negotiating a decent discount counts as man maths or not but I did do well on the F30 purchase back in Nov 2015 and I also managed to get 17% off an unregistered MX-5 in March this year The fact that it is completely impractical is totally irrelevant with no justification requiring man maths being necessary as my wife and I already have two practical cars.

My lovely old E46 330i MSport in Orient Blue with light grey leather has now notched up 155.000 miles. It has been bomb proof mechanically and electrically but like many of the breed, all 4 wheel arches rotted and required attention or replacement.

Just to reignite an old(ish) thread, I have had my warranty renewal for my 2015 F10 M5.

£0 excess including ES £1392
£100 excess including ES £1078
£250 excess including ES £875

I think that is outstanding given that it includes emergency services. The M5 is so complex and bloody expensive when it goes wrong that it is insane (in my opinion) to run one without so £100 excess policy it is.

Only thing I am dithering over is whether to go for the monthly payment as from previous experience the price never changed over the years even when the mileage clicked over 60,000. I am only on 18,800 at the moment though so have some way to go but intend to keep the M5 for a VERY long time as this is the last DCT M5 with a true RWD config. As good as the F90 is I am just not a fan of 4WD and an auto box in a true M car.

 

That really does sound like a daft quote for the possible outlay if something goes wrong. Is that with BMW or a third party?
I’d be snatching their hands off at those prices.

Very good. I'm paying £900 with £100 excess with my car on 35k miles, so compared to mine that really is a bargain. Maybe that says a lot about the reliability of the car?

Compared to my old E60 M5 - or the warranty slayer as Zarnd called it, this car has been perfectly behaved. Certainly don't hear of anywhere near the issues that the E60 had.

 

That looks like a bargain. I go with the £100 excess, although the £0 excess is still good, especially for an M Car.

I'm not current on all the rules and policies. When I last spoke to Mondial they advised me to go monthly with my 750 because it was a rolling contract and when my mileage exceeded 100K I would be entitled to stay on Fully Comprehensive cover.

 

That's excellent value considering their policies now include wear and tear

 

Sounds like a bargain for an M5. You hope that you never need it, but that could save you a lot of money.

 

Imo i would pay yearly - switching to monthly on the last renewal before you hit 60k.
