Vehicle location ability in the UK using in car SIM

    In the States if your vehicle is stolen i'm aware that BMW USA are able to provide the vehicles location upon request to the law enforcement authorities. I've not heard of this being available here in the UK. I know that you can locate the car yourself using the BMW Remote App but this only works if the vehicle is within a range of 1.5km.

    Anyone know if this service is provide by BMW UK if your car has been stolen?

    Im of the understanding, yes it can. Your vehicle is in constant contact with the BMW server (well newer ones) and location can be requested at any time.

    Just spoke to a guy on the Connected Drive helpline... he didn't have a clue... doh! :confused:

    Newer cars have the 1.5km restriction lifted and you can check it's location anywhere as Livster has said. If you're unlucky enough to have your car stolen, there is a process in place called Op CUNDALL (sp?) which is an arrangemnet between the police and BMW UK to locate a car if it's on the 1.5km restriction.

    Don't forget to enable GPS tracking in your car though, it's in the iDrive.

    Does this have anything to do with Connected Drive?

    I have only some of those services, but I keep on getting e-mails offering me the entire package for a one-off payment of £260.

    Is it worth it?

    I cant find it either but i can track the car through the bmw remote app so i guess its switched on

    Go to Main Menu, Settings and scroll down, GPS Tracking should be at the bottom.

    That's peculiar, I didn't think it was tied to an option. Have you tried locating the car through the app anyway?

    I genuinely didn't think it was tied to an option and I can't ever recalling the site saying if you tick option X you get GPS tracking. Might be worth a call to your dealer?

    I have it on my connected drive but dont have the option to turn the gps on and off via the idrive maybe software related, not really bothered as gps must be on and dont have any reason to turn off
