Managed 20+ thousand miles with the F32 without a single scuff to the alloy wheels, 2500 miles on this one and…. Forced into the near side kerb by a flatbed truck coming the other way. Clipped the kerb. Will be looking for a mobile repair this weekend!
Ouch. That’s a horrible feeling. The scuff isn’t too bad but I realise it will niggle and you want it looking perfect. In my case the roads near my place of work are in such a horrid condition that I am concerned I will accidentally bend the alloys. The road surface is terrible with huge chunks coming away from the road making avoiding the bumps difficult especially with a lot of traffic around you.
Ouch! So easily done on diamond cut alloys fitted with low profile tyres - DAMHIK. Wait until you've scuffed the other 3, then get them all refurbished. A very good local company recut my alloys at £85 / wheel. Now like new again. BTW - that looks like an awful lot of lead balance weights on your wheel rim.
I feel your pain but I would avoid a smart repair on a diamond cut alloy as @Mieke says most alloy wheel places charge circa £90 and it should be a way better job.
Quotes I’ve had so far range from £70-£85 for a smart repair and £120-£180 for a full CNC recut. The full recut takes 3-4 days, at the moment I don’t have that time to have the car off the road.
Or buy a polo And you wouldn’t give a toss about scuffing your alloy wheels… Saying that… the worst car in our household ( the polo) is the one that does the most mileage and suffers the least damage… and the best car covers the fewest miles and always suffers the most damage… why is that …. ??? I did the near side rear on mine 3 months ago. I knew the kerb was there but had no way to avoid due to the car opposite me not giving way. It was the most minor hit but did the entire circumference of the rim but literally 1mm the other way would have missed it, that minor a scuff!!!! You can’t see it until two feet from the wheel. However it is there and I will be getting a new wheel soon, don’t want a recut or repair. Cotswold discount price £980 and probably gone up since - that is gonna sting!! Hence I fully feel your pain.
I’d not considered a new wheel, but after a quick look on eBay there seems to be a few new wheels for £425. Might be worth buying a new wheel, swapping the tyre then I have a spare front should I need. Seems a bit drastic/expensive for a scuff, but the only real way of getting the factory fresh look! The local Sytners have quoted £99+vat for a full recut. They did an excellent job on the warranty claim on the F32, but can’t provide a courtesy car. I’ve asked them if they do a wheel loan.
Ouch that is a bugger the wheel guy that l use would not do a smart repair on that wheel probably because he knows that it will not last and you will be back complaining after 6 to 9 months that the repair has failed when l had the 440i l kerbed the front nearside alloy when a bus did not give way and he forced me to the kerb to miss him and Gareth said that it needed a full refurb and he charged £139.00 for the refurb and recut as for Sytner's they probably don't do the re cut themselves and have a local guy that they will farm it out to as Gareth does all the refurb and smart repairs for all the dealers around Aberystwyth
Did you ever get this sorted? I’ve just managed to do one of mine and wondered how you had fared with a repair
I’ve not got round to it. Combination of work and DIY getting in the way. Annoys me every time I see it, so will look to get it sorted soon. (Ish).
As lovely as those wheels are, I know that mine have marked up badly from 2 dings… one on the front and one on the back wheel, and also seem not to be cheap to have repaired.
I gave up with nice wheels just after i met Linda my wife lol. She still never own's up even now and she is the only driver of her car. Did think about some new ones for my car but she takes it out sometimes.
