for me living in a rural area here is what we have to work with today as far as electric charging infrastructure goes we have two EV charging points on the local car park that were installed three months ago but have not be commissioned yet and when they are live you will have to pay for charging and pay for parking whilst you charge. my nearest live charge point is nine miles away nearest Tesla supercharger is 75 miles away and they are building one 19 miles from here should be ready Q4 2021 or Q1 2022 but that could change yesterday l did a 420 mile round trip in my ice car. now in an EV with a 500 mile range l could have done that trip without to much range anxiety and then plug in to 7 kWh home charger to top up the batteries. i could work with 450 to 500 miles range but less than that i would not even consider electric just yet
I see this as big problem in the future, particularly for youngsters. I bought my first car for £10 as a low paid apprentice, many decades ago, had a lot of fun with it, then sold it on a couple of years later for £5 once I turned 21. Mechanically it was generally okay, only problem was rust, had to do a bit of welding now and again. But fun and personal independence were the main things with this car, a mere Hillman! Looks like the kids will lose out unless batteries and motor longevity improve massively.
