@The CO - your comments on your original testdrive were running through my head on mine and I mentioned them to the other half on the way down to the dealership too so that she was aware and wouldn’t let me get carried away (well, too much!) without addressing any concerns. I did have one moment up a slip road where I was as slightly underwhelmed - it was the midrange. It didn’t feel as strong as my 530d so I can imagine that coming from your 335xd, you would easily have felt underwhelmed by the shove. That said, what made it up for me was the immediacy of the pick-up, no discernible turbo lag, the fact that it feels like a naturally aspirated V6, chases the redline like a scalded cat above 5k rpm and SOUNDS GLORIOUS! A quick look at the speedo dissuaded me that it was slow - I was pushing past the NSL on the A1 very easily and had to back off. I can’t imagine what the Turbo would feel like with another 60bhp and 600cc of displacement. Performance aside, I completely agree that the level of standard kit is woeful, options are everything and it’s hard to find the ideal car as one may have one thing but another not. Some things are easy to retrofit but others impossible. And things you take for granted on the BMW are either seemingly last gen stuff on the Porsche or simply non existent. Thankfully, for me at least, the driving experience so for makes up for all of these niggles. I’m living a dream which still seems impossible to believe right now. I’m constantly looking out of the motorhome window to check it out, finding excuses to go for a drive, caressing the key (yes really!) and reliving the sound and feel of drives in my head. Haven’t done a lot of that in a very long time, if ever. For me at least it’s a very different and emotional purchase. Others won’t be as touched by it and will view it as just a car. Different strokes for different folks. But at the moment there’s no other car or marque I would rather be driving. But I also realise I’m very lucky indeed
Sorry mate - there’s not been much of a chance. Meant to get some more pics (particularly of the inside) but not managed yet. Here’s a holding one I took when I got back “home” to the van last night.
I can recall many years ago, About old H reg (at the beginning of number not end) our directors got some MB cars - 190E Cosworths they didn't even have radios as standard. Apparently its to do with many people wanting better sounds so easier not to specify as standard and let the buyer chose. Porsche salesmen also say its unlikely to find two Porsche exactly the same, so its quite interesting or difficult if buying used. As an example, my biz partner has the same car, we like the same look too with the same budget. His is white, but with black handles and white mirrors, and I have black tailpipes, he has chrome. He has rear ambient lighting option, I went for metallic black wheels instead on gloss black as I didn't need anything fancy in the back. Simple differences to our own tastes, which Porsche say is why things are options ( no mention of it being a way for you to spend 12k extra!) As you say its amazing how Porsche can make big cars handle so well, mine is breath taking, to me and anyone around. As for the noise - do you have sports exhaust option ?
Spuff, glad you're happy with it they really are epic cars and every time you get in one it's always a sense of occasion and anticipation, I love Porsches. I put 20,000 miles on my old Boxster in the first year, I just couldn't stop driving it. I told my wife about your adventures and we starting looking at GTSs again and even she was moved to say that she thought it was prettier than an RRS (Carmine Red with the GTS Alcantara interior, red stitching, red seat belts, etc). She was seriously wavering and actually did ask why we didn't get the Macan instead! Aaaaaarrgh. Sad thing is the GTS just doesn't quite tick all the boxes in the same way that an RRS does. The Autobiography has just about every conceivable thing as standard and is price point about the same as the Macan with about half the options I'd like in order to keep it for some time. Of course if I was buying on driving dynamics alone it would be the Macan all the way, no question but the simple fact is the RRS has more usable space which is what we need. See how I'm managing to convince myself?! Mate, enjoy the car. I know you're gonna love it and I can't help but feel a tiny pang of jealousy!
You obviously need a new Cayenne. I had a GTS on order but cancelled it because of lack of space for dog and , if I am honest, the image, I wanted to fly a bit more under the radar. If I was putting £70k ish into a car now I would be looking for an SQ7...
