As per the thread title. Fuel consumption not quite so good this last month - likely due to being: 1. Overloaded 2. Cruising between 90 and 100mph on the Autobahnen. 3. Freezing conditions in Austria, Hungary, and Croatia. I usually get over 60mpg - but this trip it works out at around 56mpg.
Look like grand figures to me, particularly so given the load and speed. My review for Dec will make you feel better….
@Singvogel Was this on regular fuel or the premium fuel? BP app tells me I'd gain a few extra miles on premium... so it says, not entirely convinced. Kev
Hi Kev, Happy New Year to you - and to everyone else on the forum. Once upon a time I was an advocate of premium fuel, but no longer. After several identical lengthy journeys, comparing/testing standard fuel with the premium brew, I reached the conclusion that for BMW diesels at least it made little or no difference. On this trip I refuelled at my usual stations with the cheapest fuel available. Esso in Moffat, Scotland. Auchan Supermarket in Petite Forêt, France. Jet in Rodgau, Germany. Jet in Schärding, Austria. Before setting off for home, I'll be filling to the brim at 'Bingo' supermarket in Tuzla, BiH. Bosnia has the cheapest fuel on my route - it costs €1.252 / £1.04 per litre and they don't have any premium grade available. I'll also be topping up the AdBlue which they dispense from a custom pump at approx 30p per litre.
Still incredible mpg figures considering the size of the engine, the speeds on some motorway sections and the hills/mountains you have to go over. I only put one tank of premium a year in my derv. Usually at this time of year and mainly to assist in smooth cold starts and cleaning anything that may have built up in small deposits. Not worried about additional mpg. Safe travels
I've always used Shell V Power diesel. Not so much for the supposed fuel saving, especially as the cost between the standard and V is a lot greater now than it used to be. Although I think you do (at least in my 1.6 TDI Golf) get slightly better fuel economy I don't really think it's worth paying the extra for that. I use it, as it is a cleaner fuel. I've done 106000 in the Golf and changed the fuel filters at 40K and they have been spotless they have looked like new, where as my mate who only bought cheap supermarket stuff his was absolutely filthy at around the 30k mark. They were same age and spec Golfs with roughly same mileage. Also as an additional note my dad filled his lorry up with Morrisons diesel, got two miles ish down the road and broke down, the filter was full of jelly like substance. Now was it the actual fuel or were the tanks at the fuel station low and rubbish out of that, who knows. But we did get some compensation (eventually) from them for filters and time and a £50 Morrisons voucher.
I should have said that I pour in 250ml of Red X diesel additive / cleaner two or three times a year - when it's on half-price offer from Asda or Tesco.
The myBMW app has just updated with the stats for 2024. So that's 14600 miles this past year which used 255 UK gallons giving an overall average of nearly 58mpg. The most economic journey was a ridiculous 85mpg - but that was a trip of only 12 miles or so. This diesel-electric hybrid set up is near unbelievable - such a shame that BMW decided to discontinue the 3 litre engines in the G20. I am so, so happy that I bought this car.
Glad you're still enjoying the G20 Sing. I've just come out of a G21 330e. I averaged 35mpg for similar power to your 330d Long live diesels Ed
I do wonder about the future sustainability of these hybrids, great for company tax figures etc, but real world economy doesn’t seem great. And that’s before the resale value is taken into account later down the line. The F30 330e models are starting to need new batteries, and they are not cheap!
