Uh oh! The 3-year warranty expired 5 days ago. I've been running the 2018-1 maps for a good while now having installed them pretty much as soon as they were downloadable from the BMW website.

Today on my return from work, the nav system was suffering a severe slow down. First thing I noticed was the RTTI was not updating every 3 minutes as usual. Then when I activated a diversion, it took ages to recalculate. Once it had recalculated it was then laggy. It was as if the CPU was overloaded. All other iDrive functions were completely fine. If it is the same HDD used for the music storage as for the nav, then that seems OK, as the music works fine So I got home, parked it up, just went back to it and it's fine again. Odd.

I've seen similar reports on other forums with the same issues in F10s and F30s. And no solution in sight. Some seem to think it is RTTI-related. Either there's a widespread problem with the 2018-1 maps (and I never kept a copy of the 2017-3 ones to reload) or they've changed something with the RTTI data feed and it's overloading the system. It seems BMW are aware of the problem.

Be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this as well...

Could be the sluggish response that some have found with the 2018-1 upgrade. Let's hope that an improved 2018-2 is on the way soon. :(

Not used my NAV much lately but will be traveling up to Scotland in a week, so will test it then.

Has your RTTI expired also out of interest as I believe its only valid for 3 years as part of connected drive services? you then need to pay to renew? Have you tried turning off the RTTI at all?

The RTTI runs until 23rd May 2018, no idea why I got an extra couple of months, the other connecteddrive services have the same expiry date. My next move was indeed to switch off the RTTI if it slows down again to see if that's the cause.

My whole head unit was replaced before I got the car, not sure why but I have read stories of them expiring.

the connected drive services run for three years from date of activation, did you have the car from new or was it approved used?

I have not downloaded the 2018-1 maps yet and at the moment I am glad i haven't, i have my crappy laptop to thank for the delay in downloading as i have an issue with the display drivers and if it is a long download that puts pressure on the laptop it locks up and stops working so i have avoided doing it juat yet

I have been experiencing the sluggish behaviour you are experiencing. Never had an issue until I updated to 2018-1 in February.
It takes a good few minutes to calculate the route and spoken instructions can occasionally come AFTER the junction.
I don't know how or who to contact, but really wish i could downgrade the software to pre 2018-1 :(

IIRC it's possible with the iDrive software to revert to the previous version. Not sure if it's possible to do the same with the Map version?
It would be good if it was. I know that this could be done with Garmin Sat-Navs in the past.

Will the iDrive actually upload it if it's an older version from the current map?

Isn't the map version specific to each car?

Can't think why it wouldn't let you revert to an earlier version?... having said that i've not done so myself

The map software is identical for each type, i.e NBT EUROPE NEXT. The FSC enabling code is unique for each vehicle

AND to the map version. Hence a FSC for 18-2 won't work with 17-2 etc.

I have a lifetime code, initially keyed in when updating to NBT 2016-2, have since updated twice with 2017 maps but code was not requested for these

I bought the 2 year update code from BMW back in January. Realistically, will wait for the next map update to come through or chase BMW when I have a bit more time.

Since signing up for 2 years map updates, the code is the same for each upgrade. So map upgrade 2017-1 has the same code as the current 2018-1.

Interestingly the nav was fine again on my way to work today and even though I hadn't disabled RTTI, it was not available. Only TMC was available. I shall keep an eye on things on my way back tonight.

Just out of interest, how do you tell whether RTTI or TMC are active? I know that traffic flow shows up on the map as red, orange or green. I assume that's RTTI generated.
