That's a super picture and sounds like a great day out! A mate of mine with an old Freelander kept threatening to take me green-laning. Part of me winces at it and the other bit gets quite excited. It very often feels like a waste just trogging the family around in something so capable.

Your mpg numbers aren't too different from mine. We've slipped to 28mpg, mainly as a function of it being relegated to more short, local-ish journeys than the longer ones we used to do previously. I still don't think that's bad considering the 228i is averaging 30mpg on a similar profile of trips.

Do keep us posted on running costs & experiences pre-trade-in. I don't envy you, I'd struggle to replace mine with anything but the same.

It was indeed a great day, and I also carted the wife and two youngest around the hills of North Wales, of which they all found fun!

There was also a stock Freelander as part of the group. It did incredibly well which I was surprised about (it did have all terrains).

Will be sure to update on the ownership, for now ll be doing if in doubt do nowt.

Also of course giving a good clean, detail and inevitably some paint correction!

At least I made use of the 20” set of Defender wheels I’ve been trying to flip for months!
