Hi all, So not been on here for a while, purely because lack of BMW but I do like to pop in every now and again. I hope everyone is well. So those that may recall my previous posts, I jumped ship from X5, in to my LR Discovery 5 HSE Lux. Here I completed almost 4 years of ownership. The PCP was nearing end and unfortunately the final payment was a good few grand more than the value. With that in mind I, I considered other options, including the next replacement being another Discovery 5. With a lot of searching about, and also considering leasing, a deal for a Jeep Grand Cherokee came up. An absolute steal considering the MSRP on these of £86k! But after much deliberation these went out of stock, so the search continued again for a Discovery. To my surprise, a phone call due to a cancelled order, and the order was placed. This is where the fun began! Expected delivery due in 3 weeks. Delivery date locked in and I get a phone call to say the car didn’t pass pre delivery inspection checks due to an engine light. Second delivery date locked in. Day before delivery, I get another call to say that the car broke down and cut out completely. It needed to be recovered back and diagnosed. Delivery pushed back again over a week. Third delivery date locked in, and this time it was delivered. On my delivery inspection I observed some quality issues, including ‘worming’ on two of the diamond cut alloy wheels. Also that week we noticed some imperfection on the drivers leather seat. As the condition of this lease was it is a pre registered vehicle, it was already due a 12 month service. Luckily there is a dealership less than 10 miles to me which I thought could be useful for future servicing needs. The service booking proved useful as the engine management light had come on, which allowed the issue to be investigated at the same time. It was dropped off, serviced and they concluded the fault was an exhaust sensor. However to fix that they redownloaded to the ECU and said this should sort this fault out. I also requested them to submit for warranty the quality issues to Jeep UK. Fast forward a week and the engine light re-appeared and no update about the issues from Jeep UK. As this local dealership didn’t enthral much confidence, I booked in at another approved Jeep garage but about 30 miles away. This dealer was able to diagnose and order the oxygen sensor, and also submit a claim to Jeep again! They also regarded the air con as I felt the performance was not very good. Currently, still waiting for the part to arrive from Italy, I think we’re now on week 5/6! Also I’m yet to hear about the warranty claim. So currently I have a complaint ongoing with the finance company to review. However that aside, the Jeep is very comfortable. Being the Summit Reserve, is fully loaded! The hifi in it sounds amazing. The engine is a 2.0 turbo plug in hybrid. It’ll do about 27 miles on a full charge which I can charge for free in work, and it’s surprisingly poky when the electric motor and engine combine. What is weird though is the complete lack of presence of them on the road! I’ve not seen any, and only the other one I’ve seen was at the second dealership. I think this is because who in the Roger mind would buy one of these new, when you could have a fine JLR product (or similar marque) Here’s a few pics anyway, thank you for reading.
Well that is a left field and brave choice! Fair play to you for going for something so different, as you say, these are far and few between on the road. The interior looks very smart indeed, nice to see some classic materials being used. Hoping you get these warranty issues sorted, having owned Alfas in the past (part of the same Stellantis group) I can mirror your thoughts on dealership engagement. Hopefully the one you have found does you right. Keep us updated, always interested to hear ownership experiences, regardless of the make/model!
Love the little jeep touches in grill etc, strangely quite like the 80's wood colour, reminds me of the wood cladding on the American station wagons from back in the day. Never have or will be a fan of the scratch as soon as you look at it piano black finish all car manufacturers seem to love on the trim. It looks pretty good from the outside with nice looking alloys. I'll admit I've never noticed any on the roads. Will keep an eye out. Do you wish you'd stuck with another JLR or glad you jumped ship?
