We’ve had the current 2013 A1 1.4tfsi Sport for six years now, in all that time she has raised the mileage from 12K to a massive 32K. Had no issue with it other than some dodgy paintwork when we collected the car, sorted reasonably quickly.
We saw that Audi were doing some deals on new A1s, so did some research (my favourite past time apparently) and spoke to the dealer on Saturday.
After some really annoying salesperson cock ups, they quoted finance on the wrong car and then wondered why we didn’t want it, a deal was done by Sunday.
Hopefully it will be delivered in 7-10 days as the unregistered car is in group stock.
The new car will be kept for the duration of the finance and then bought, as Mrs W does with her cars.
    It’s a 21 plate A1 Sportback 30TFSI Sport. Quite a mouthful for a small car.
Unbelievable technology and basis spec on the Sport, it’s a midrange so doesn’t have the crash SLine suspension. Apple CarPlay as standard (can you hear that BMW...??) lane departure, radar emergency brake, park sensors, DAB, sport seats, lumbar support (can you hear that BMW...??), digital dash, etc. And for a reasonably small car on the outside it has a good interior space. I’m 6’ tall and can sit comfortably in the back, for those times when I’m in trouble.
The new engine is a three cylinder 1.0 but manages to put out 110bhp or so, reasonable torque for one so small, plenty enough to zip around town.

Went for metallic Glacier white, optional spare wheel and also for the paint protection thrown in for free due to the mess up. We shall see if that is any better than the last rubbish.

The first thing Mrs W will do is hand the keys and her phone over to me and get me to set the tech up!

Will update with commentary and photos when it is delivered.

Not quite a Cayenne GTS or Fezza, but exciting enough for Mrs W.

    Cheers.

Having said we are looking forward to the delivery, I have to say the Audi forecourt left me cold. Lots of very expensive and very powerful cars on there, but I wasn’t in the least bit interested. Surprised me a little as to how uninterested I was! Must be all those fake grills and exhausts....

That's great news, I hope you are happy with your choice. They seem a popular car on the roads around here, far more than the 1-Series. I await the report of how you find it with great interest. I love white too, the last two vehicles that I had the privilege to specify new were both white. One thing you didn't mention is whether it is manual or automatic ?

Lack of lumbar support on BMW, grrr. It is such a basic feature these days, I never even checked to see if our car had it, which of course it doesn't !

Your thoughts on the Audi forecourt are interesting too. That's exactly how we felt at the VW garage in Middlesborough when we went (to explore the Golf SV), it was 'cold' or 'clinical' in a way that's hard to describe but I felt slightly uncomfortable, must be a VAG thing.

Manual, six speed. The 25TFSI has a 5 speed manual or auto option. The 6 speed seems much better mated to the 30TFSI option.

Basic white didn’t look good, nor did the dark metallic grey they offered, cheapened the look of the rear flanks in a strange way.
Interior trim is excellent on the dash and driving controls, but drops off a bit on the door bins, rear door cards etc. Built to a budget clearly, but the money seems to have been spent in the right areas. Time will tell on that!

Never had a brand new car, so interested to see what the fit and finish is like.

The wife has the A3 30tsfi in black edition trim
I have to say it’s an incredible competent car, most look at the engine and dismiss, though it’s a very capable & agile cruiser within the legal limits, granted if you want to drive spirited it will leave you wanting, but otherwise very composed and balanced!
Whilst conscious of my bias, I find it very difficult to fault the power plant

The Audi is in Artic White, sat next to my Designo Diamond white the colour difference is very apparent - I think I prefer the Artic as diamond looks cream......

    Cant beat new car day!
Ps - Audi has the best smelling, new car smell that retains its waft!

Perhaps include Ford as well? Come on own up and do not be embarrassed that you have one! Not me though.

    In a previous life I’ve owned a 306 and a 106. Decent enough cars.
Also had 3x Fiestas and a ‘92 Escort. I lived the Ford dream so I did.

l was a year behind you with an 1989 Ford Orion injection Ghia and l loved that car and l owned it for nearly 10 years
the dealer that l bought it from was tryng to get me into a Orion 1600E in black with a grey leather interior and l would have gone for that in a heart beat but my missus didn't like it and as she was going half's on the purchase price we ended up in the 1600 i Ghia

when that car was sold in 1999 l bought my first of three Mondeos and they were all great cars

I have to say i loved the car, bought it at six months old with about 8000 on (ex Hertz i think) and ran it to 40,000 and it mechanically it never missed a beat but it was jinxed...

New Years day 1990 a taxi driver ran into the back of me and pushed me into a car i front...the damage to the Orion looked minimal. All glass intact, doors opened fine but the bodyshell had distorted front and rear so a new body shell was required. Ford were having problems with strikes and it took 3 months for the new bodyshell to arrive.
Had a hire car for that time, but whilst awaiting repair at the Ford dealers the wheels got nicked

Got it back, was dubious about how well the rebuild had gone but it was fine, but then woke up one morning to find it on the drive, with all wheels missing ! Replaced by the insurance company but within 48 hours the Police had recovered the original wheels

Then someone else ran into the back of me on a motorway slip road, minimal damage BUT then had the audacity to claim i had rolled backwards into them ! A site visit with the insurance company investigator proved that for me to have rolled back into him i would have had to defy the laws of gravity and roll up a hill !

At that point i decided enough was enough and traded it in for a Mark 2 Golf GTI
