Hi, I'm still in the process of setting up my recently bought 330i. I have installed MyBMW on my iPhone and have gone through the process of pairing it with the car. In the App I get the following message:

'No active subscription: To access full functionality including Remote Services and Vehicle Data, please check service availability for your vehicle and activate your subscription'

From all the documentation and videos I have seen, it implies that remote services are available automatically when the app has been installed and paired with the car. I can't find anything on MyBMW that seems related to activating remote services.

Is Remote Services free, or does it require a paid subscription?

    Does anyone have any advice?

    Thanks

I think it depends upon what the car came with from the factory. When you log into your connected drive account on the web (you didn’t say this has been set up, if not you will need to set up and account), you should be able to see what is available and what isn’t.
On this screen shot you can see what my car (2017 F32) has as “standard” from the factory. Even without the paid connected drive package I would still be able to access these facilities:

Thanks, Wynne71. The car is an approved BMW. I might give the dealers a call and see if they can advise

If you haven’t set up a CD account that would be my first port of call. I had this working fine on my last car, 2012 320d, even with limited functionality due to the tech in the car.
100% need an account to get the link between car and app working.

Thanks. I have spotted an email from BMW ID in my junk folder with a link to activate my account. That is the good news. The bad news is that when I click through on the link I get this message:
'Due to a system error, your request cannot be processed at the moment. Please try again later.'

    It's progress, I suppose

Trying to link the app to the car is not the first step.

Can we assume that you have already registered a Connected Drive account on the CD website and have a user name with e-mail address and password?

If you can log in to the Connected Drive website it will show you all the subscriptions that you can access.

If you need to register your account start here:

Thanks, Singvogel. I do have a Connected Drive account, and I can login on the website. It gives me a list of subscriptions and packages that I can purchases, but remote services is not listed. I had assumed that remote services was standard with mydrive

Just thought I'd jump in on this thread rather than create a new one, but why do BMW make these Connected Drive subscriptions so difficult? :banghead:

A year ago I took out a Connected Plus package for £99 which included: Remote Services, USB Map Update, RTTI and BMW Online.

A week or so ago I received an email stating that my services were due to expire soon and to follow a link to renew. To cut a long story short, it wouldn't let me renew my current package because it doesn't exist anymore, the packages have now changed and the USB Map Update service has been removed from the new Connected Booster package (£69) and a new eDrive Services option added in. Customer services advised me that I can renew now but it will start from today so I'll lose a few days. In regard to the USB Map Update option, I advised the rep that I couldn't see that on my list of available options and he replied that I won't be able to see that until it's actually expired!!! For God's sake!

I believe the USB Map Update option will be around £49 so that's a total of £118 against last year's £99.

All I can see is that myBMW allows BMW to extract more money from me. I can't see anything there that I would want that I don't have to pay for. Maybe Remote Services has been discontinued. It's odd, as I would have thought that it would have made commercial sense to tempt customers in with at least some free offering

@DJP - I would be querying this with the Connected Drive Customer Service people.

From what I see on the website the new 'Booster' Package costs £69 and the USB updates are £34.98 so a total of £103.98 as opposed to last years £99.

The Remote Services is listed as having 'unlimited duration' as does a few others.

@Jaycee - I agree completely they do make it difficult - especially as they keep changing the names and which features are in each package.

In past years I've waited to see if there were any special Black Friday deals in November.

If I get a decent reduction again this year I'll renew as I need up to date maps and the RTTI.

As usual I will be complaining about the several European countries that are poorly covered with main roads only.

I need to have an aging Garmin with me which gives full coverage of those countries.

@Singvogel - Thanks for the update on the price of USB Map Updates, as I said I can't yet see that on my list as it hasn't expired.

Thanks, everyone. I have emailed BMW Connected Drive customer services to ask how I get set up with remote services. I'll let you know if and when I get a response

I had a reply from customer services - remote services is now part of the connected package, which costs £69 per year. I think , having bought an approved BMW I have handed the company enough of my money, so I don't think I'll be taking this option. Having seen the latest news about BMW making things like heated seats a subscription item, I think that is going down a very slippery road

I found that I had to buy the basic subscription to keep the Nav maps up to date, and allow nav programming from the phone. Its a bit of a pain, and like you I was reluctant to pay, but I swallowed it eventually. I think I pay £79 a year.
