This section of the forum looks like a bit of a ghost town but I'll post anyway.

Since last November I've had my best BMW dealership (not my local one!) looking for an M850i for me and have had zero prospects from them. I regularly look at Autotrader and see nothing but dull cars (IMHO) on there. Black is a definite no-no as are white/cream leather interiors. My spec requirement is quite high but this is because I accidentally bought my girlfriend one of the best spec'd 2018 X3s in the country (I think it was a BMW UK demo car) and of course I want everything that she's got. The M8 is also out as its suspension is not at all suited to UK roads.

I've never been really keen on my 640d, it's certainly a good car and I have no big criticisms, but having come from a luxurious E66 745Li that I used to enjoy every single mile in, it just doesn't compare. The 8 is just a big 6 so I've no idea of I'll like that either but I want to try it.

If anyone sees anything out there then please let me know.

Good luck with the search. It sure is difficult to go back on spec once you’ve had all the toys.

Indeed, good luck! Sounds like you know exactly what you want, hopefully the right one is out there waiting for you.

I hope so. I'm also looking at X5s but want to tick the 850 box first.

Typically, when I owned a 2003 4.4 E53 X5 back in 2005 and tried to sell it a few years later I was greeted with sharp intakes of breath everywhere and "Sorry, no one wants those big SUVs", but now everybody wants them and values are strong. That early E53 was actually the same size as our G01 X3 is!

I keep looking at 8 series as well although not brave enough to go for an 850i I am looking at 840iGC. Are you looking for Gran Coupe or Coupe? There are a couple on AUC at the minute. The thing that puts me off moving from the 640d GC is the 8 series are even longer and wider yet have a smaller boot and if I want to run a BMW warranty it is over £2500 / year! The current M440i GC makes far more sense for me but I am not that keen on the looks or the quality of the interior compared to the 8 series or my 6 series.

I had the Coupe/Gran Coupe conversation with myself when I bought the 640; I think the Coupe looks better for sure but I went for the GC for practicality. I don't often carry pax in the rear but people can sit back there in comfort, not so with the Coupe, I think the length of the doors on the Coupe could also be a problem in our tiny UK parking spaces. I watched many reviews at the time and most say the GC is the better option. The boot on the 640 is big, with split-folding rear seats, does the Coupe have these? If we use a car to go on holiday it's usually in our 1997 Merc SL which has a tiny boot but still capable of swallowing a week's worth of luggage, the 8 GC would be fine.

I was looking at 8GC on the AUC site last night as I want to replace my 4GC with something a bit easier to get my daughter in the back. Been looking for 6GT/X3/5 touring/3 touring, ventured to iX3 and the like even but not much coming up and the AUC site is crap for filtering on options.
Trouble with the 8 is losing the hatch boot.
I’d ideally want the 40d to give a bit of economy when I had a lighter shoe on the right foot. Also want to keep xdrive ideally.
I want surround view which is the breaker in my searches really as barely any cars have it. HUD is also req.
Realistically I’ve been putting my daughter in now for 4 years, she’s swapped to forward facing so into the easier times with seats but it annoys me that the isofix is right next to the seat belt buckle so I have to push the buckle away while putting the belt in every time.
