Car all done. I can’t get there to collect so bmw assist are going to deliver it back to me. Holiday on Saturday so got to wait until I’m back before being able to have a proper go in it. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Went to get car this morning. Car was brought round to the front door and was excited to drive it again. Sadly, as soon as I got in and looked there was a fault warning on the I drive screen saying Level Control System Failure. I hadn’t even left the car park Turned it off and went back in and the tech they wanted to look at it was doing an MOT so I elevated to leave the car there with them for it to be checked again. Pretty miffed at the moment, but let’s see what they come up with next week. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
How could they even not notice the warning mate or do you think it only came on when you got in and started it?
Who knows!?! I was too tired to bother having any sort of conversation so will wait and see when they call as to what they have found. He reckoned it may have been a fuse. I don’t Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Assuming this is related to the air suspension this is the identical experience I had with the F11. Took it in to the BMW Dealer in Winchester for some body work repair under warranty, came to collect it. A staff member drove it out of the workshop and right away I could see it was sitting on its haunches. I queried it, and they took it back in and tried finding the alleged fuse to no avail. I landed up taking their courtesy car for another day, but got a call next day saying they couldn’t see anything obvious or related to the work they did. I got it recovered to my Indy and found out it needed a new compressor. Nice bill at the end of it and no way for me to prove if this was due to their work or not, but just seemed very coincidental.
I don’t intend to pay anything else as it went in without the fault, they’ve worked on it and now a new fault is present. Will see what they say when I hear from them once they have looked at it. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’ve had an email from them today to say they have got it working, but has been caused by water ingress in the nearside rear. Guess this is a hang over of the car living outside and probably blocked sunroof drains at the rear I guess. So far if I want the damaged bits replaced it would be £541 + vat for parts only. Going to sit on it for a day or two before deciding as once damaged by water it’s probably going to fault again I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Common fault on the E61's https://bmwrepairguide.com/bmw-e61-...ain-failure-2004-2010-5-series-touring-wagon/
So the sunroof drains at one point we’re ok, now they’re not and now they’re cleaned out and fixed. A water test that was done by bmw showed water coming in and filling the battery tray up with water and also the other control units. Been quoted £4,200 to replace all of them or just under £2,000 to replace the ibs and ride height control unit. Everything working as dried and cleaned out but could obviously fail again in the future. Asked how much it was if i took it away put back together and told £1,050. I called them today to say that I understand that I need to pay for labour etc… but no one has called me and asked for authority or run costs past me to do the work so need to come up with something sensible and check availability of the parts as well before I decide what to do and where to go. Bit fed up with it all at the moment so just waiting for a response from them reference final costs and availability before I decide what to do. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This sounds as though it is becoming a bit of an unraveling nightmare for you. Is this not all covered under the extended warranty?
What a situation mate. Being in the game at least you know how to handle it for the best but did they honestly think that they could just run up a four figure labour bill without discussing with you first?
Extended warranty doesn’t cover water ingress so nothing covered for this bit. The initial bit of work was covered and had been done and I’ve paid the excess. Can’t pick it up for another two weeks anyway and will look into an outdoor cover of some sort so that the drains don’t get blocked again whilst it is sitting parked up. Any recommendations for an outdoor cover? Would like an outdoor carcoon but don’t think my mum would like it in her drive in one as the car is stored there Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Who knows!?! All a bit weird, but they were receptive to what I was politely discussing with them so shouldn’t be too much of an issue and I’m happy to pay something for the work they’ve done, but it has to be sensible bearing in mind they’ve done a load without authority. Alternatively keep the drains clear by regular maintenance with compressed air?... as you work in the trade should be easy enough
Will need to be careful with compressed air that you don't pop off any pipes, are there are joins anywhere that might separate..
Yeah wouldn't recommend giving it the full 300bar ... only a minimal turn of the regulator valve... more of a gently breeze
It’s probably mainly my fault for not cleaning them out. Cars been garaged for most of its life with me, but not anymore. Going to look at a car cover for it. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got the car back a couple of weekends ago. Had a bill of £1300 and have a leak free car. Also now got to source a new Bluetooth control module as my one is dead so going to try and source s secondhand one instead of paying £1100 for a brand new one. Currently have no phone or SOS in the car. Must be honest since this has happened and looking at values of what others have sold for recently (£43,000 on collecting cars) and with a house that needs a load of work I have questioned the sanity in keeping it currently. Drive it though and it’s wonderful. Decision time soon I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I can understand why you would be considering selling, especially with the market as it currently is. Would you regret selling? Time does funny things to us all.
I still regret selling my e39 M5 so probably would regret it. Will see what happens and how everything goes in the future I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
