In my car I've been using a memory stick with all my music on it but it can be a bit of a pain selecting different songs, having to jump back and search through different files etc. So I thought I'd try my iPod which is about 7 years old but still fully working and in good condition. It's only an 8 gig version but that enough to hold all my preferred music.

Anyway, £49 for a connecting cable. Are they serious???

That works does it? It just looks like a short version of the Apple white cable.

I'm a bit confused now, you're absolutely right it is a short version of the Apple white cable but that's all you ever need.

    Kindest Regards
    Carl.

Ok I've caused a bit of confusion here, you're quite right. On my 63 plate F30 the iPod wouldn't work for whatever reason and I was told I'd need a specific cable with the aux connector which is why I was looking into it. I've just tried it on the F31 and the iPod works fine with the standard Apple cable so I'm not sure why it's different but I'm glad it works. Thanks for your help though.

Why don't you just load your music from the usb onto the hard drive... can then search and select tracks via the i-drive or steering wheel controls

I've done exactly that, what I was hoping for was a quicker interface for selecting music as I think the iDrive is a bit long winded with menus but after trying the iPod it's exactly the same. I've had cars before where it's slightly easier with the iPod connected but not in this case it seems.

I'm probably being a bit unfair to the iDrive, it's fantastic but I do like to skip between music a lot so I guess I'm just being fussy. 1st world problems eh?
