It’s that time of year again. At least I gave myself plenty of time as I am 30 days out. Apparently the sweet spot is 26 days out and prices vary each day up to renewal. I have two cars on a multi car policy and had an offer of last year’s price from my existing insurer at just over a £1,000 which isn’t bad for an M3 and C63S. This was discounted down by 10% following a quick phone call. After spending too long on line this evening, it looks like I can save a further 10% by splitting between companies, but it does amaze me just how wildly prices vary. What is annoying is having to declare when someone hit my unoccupied car and drove off - fortunately a witness saw them and I wasn’t penalised - and also I have to declare when the M3’s wheels were taken. Neither of which being down to my driving standard. One funny thing is BMW’s very own insurance which didn’t return a quote. Why? Because the M3 has MPerformance parts fitted and also it would need a tracker fitted to be covered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck. Be interesting to hear what this years renewals come out. Overall they went up for me last year due to reclassification of vehicles. Just an excuse to put it up in what is generally a less risky landscape. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I’m a month away so ran a quote with quote me happy, which seems comprehensive level of cover after reading policy 6000miles annual policy for the wife and I £245.52 which is circa £20 less than last year, my search may be complete! I’ll wait for the renewal but keep the quote as invariably it shall land on the door and be more expensive!
Sounds good. The good news is that most of them hold their quote for 30 days, so you have them locked in at that price, so if you can’t beat it you can go back to them later. QMH is part of Aviva BTW. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have just received renewals for the Z3 (include extra Breakdown Cover) X1 and Ivor Williams. 3 named drivers on each. Premiums are down 5.5% to £1094 with £100 excess on each policy for any of us driving The youngest driver is son at 53. (just for if he wants/needs to drive as they have Merc,Isuzu and Land Rover). Interestingly the have increased excess for driver under 21 to £1100 and between 21 & 28 to £350. I have no idea why .
I have just renewed with NFU for the 330d and my 2000Kg Heinemann trailer (currently down-plated to 1800Kg. Premium dropped a little from £442 to £439 but one must be thankful for small mercies as they say - at least it didn't go up! Just myself and Mrs S drivers but policy gives 3rd party cover for 'any car not owned, hired etc. etc.' Lots of increases to the excess for drivers under 30 which won't affect us, but surprisingly a reduction in the windscreen excess - down to £50 I see that they have removed the exclusion for carrying explosives and now allow more that the previous 2000 cartridges / bullets that can be carried at any one time - very handy that - I must remember to stock up on cartridges. On a more serious note, I'm especially pleased to see that Brexit has not brought any changes to the provision of Green Cards nor to the list of countries that NFU are prepared to extend full cover to.
Should have mentioned I'm with nfu The quantity of cartridges don't bother me , even with my shooting. Years ago ,when working, we did have to pay an addition cost for carrying explosives , not nfu was a company policy. Wife and myself get the driving other cars as z3 is mine X1 is hers. I consider it great to have an office i can call in at.
When I've been riding my motorcycle in Wales, I've noticed that there is a NFU branch in Ruthin. Is that the one you use? Unfortunately every time I've had a quote from NFU in Cheshire, they have been quite a bit more expensive than other companies.
Yes Ruthin branch. Regarding quote in Cheshire it depends on where you are , daughter lives in Hale and nfu told me before they quoted they were not competitive around her area. It also helps that after the first year with them you get a Mutual Bonus ,this year 16.5% , starts at one year being 12.5%. Great think to me is I am dealing with a person , not a call centre. Last year we had a claim on the house policy , upstairs shower cracked , allowing water onto the downstairs ceiling, damaging it . As the total was over £3,500 they sent a Loss Adjustor , who agreed it all , but did point out some other companies would not , as the damage to the shower tray could be considered not accidental. The crack was around the outlet . I was paid within a week , but told if any cost increases just call them. My builder not theirs.
The NFU branch in Cheshire that quoted was Knutsford. I'll give them another call, next time renewal comes around.
Mine was due this month, so I started looking last month, but all I got was £700 with a box fitted and I’m 43 ♂️ The wife’s 43 too. Without it they were all £1200 But shockingly my renewal was £700 with no box, so I just stayed with my renewal quote First time ever it’s dropped on the renewal.
Got the merry insurance dance coming up. Currently with AXA who very kindly say they will carry on my insurance automatically for a hefty premium - erm, don't think so you bunch of robbing gits!!!
Staying with AVIVA again this year G30 and X1 both fully comp with personal business cover and both of used named drivers on each car. Last year £521, this year £512
I stumbled across the magic 21 day prior to policy expiring and requoted as below, needless to say I snapped up policy and shall look at put the Audi on multi car when the time comes Don’t think I’ve ever had insurance so cheap! - they have certainly quoted me happy!
I live in Manchester / Cheshire border my wife had a accident a few years back that went against my policy
In the end, I managed to insure both of our cars for £807, which is too bad considering. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Very good price hopefully next year the wife’s crash won’t be counted so ours should drop more fingers crossed
Compared to last year (leaving it late) I have saved £360 this year as I have 21 days until my current policy expires. For once I am happy(ish).
Renewal time for me, first quote from current provider, LV, was £577. Dropped to £461 with Admiral like for like. Reasonably happy with that quote. There was a provider called “Marshmallow” that quoted £384, but didn’t particularly consider that one!
