Ive always been one for putting my car in the garage overnight I suppose it stems from the days of having "fast Fords, Golf GTis etc" On our cul de sac of about 20 houses i am literally the only person who puts his car in the garage overnight so very much the odd one out. Interested in if others put cars in the garage each night ? A G30 just fits - the G60 no chance
When we first moved into our house, I had the Macan tucked up every night. It just fitted! But then two things happened… The Macan turned into a Cayenne (which wouldn’t fit), then we had 3 kids and their stuff took over more and more of the house. So whilst I wouldn’t change the kids for the world, I would tend towards putting the 911 in the garage if I could. No one else on the street uses their garage for their cars either, even though there’s a 991.1 C2S and a 981 Boxster Spyder on the street also.
I wish I could get my car in the garage! We live in a 1950s house, the garage would be just big enough to get the G21 in, but it would be the tightest of squeezes. However, the garage is full on bikes, paint, wood, cleaning equipment etc that there is no chance of even a Mini (a real one) fitting in there.
We live in a new build with "double garage" but truth is whilst two cars would fit in it you would struggle to open the doors . Likewise the garage is full of bikes / mowers / tools, ladders, work benches etc but is arranged so i can get 1 of our 2 cars in the garage. But if i need anything more than a tin of paint the car has to be out of the garage. The wife has never been into parking in a garage so happily lets me park there. We have neighbours (couples no kids) in 5 bedroom houses and the cars never get put in the garage. Im deliberating making the garage more of a "man cave" but still leaving room for a small car - when the G30 goes it will be something smaller
I don’t know if the rear arches of my M3 will get through the garage door Truthfully the car will probably just fit but I probably wouldn’t be able to get out of the car lol, soooooo we are taking half the wall out in a couple of months to extend the kitchen through to it. May as well put it to use if we can’t get a car in properly - just need to store three motorbikes and around four push bikes and all the associated crap that gets stored in a garage while the work gets done lol.
Technically I have a car in the garage... a 2004 Pug 206 1.1 that hasn't been on the roads for 8 years! It was my mums then bought for my son when he was home from uni... then I used it for the station run before wanting something better and keeping it as a project for one day... someday... its only done 40k miles and apart from a scrape on the nearside quarter (thanks, son!) Its immaculate.... Might try and get the Mini in for the winter as well but the chances of two fitting along with the world of crap you accumulate over time are zero...
I can foresee this being a Mathersons (Bangers and Cash tv series in case you've not seen it) garage find in a few years!
My M5 is tucked up in the garage every night! It is staying so much cleaner as a result, meaning I don’t need to be as OCD as I used to about keeping it clean. I do wonder though if I’m going it justice being that it’s not heated or dehumidified. Perhaps it’s better just being outside?
Was lucky enough to build a new house which completed 3 years ago. The garage is purposely built 1 metre wider and 1.5 metres longer than a standard garage so can get a load of gear and a car in. At the time we had the E36 vert which lived there. Car now sold and can get the large G31 in there. Only done it once mind! Flag was for the 2023 Six Nations. Doesn't stay up and don't have it drawn on a roundabout
Well that's what a garage is for, isn't it? I'm fortunate to have a fairly large two car garage and workshop. So it houses two cars, a BMW motorcycle and lots of other stuff. It's particularly nice in the winter months to get in a warm dry car regardless of the weather outside.
That’s the main thing I miss. Plus when you’ve detailed the car and lay it up for a few days, knowing when you go back, it’ll look as good as when you left it.
What! are you mad man? Use a garage to actually store a car! But where else am I going to put the boxes full of "useful" stuff that I haven't looked in for the last 10 years, that I most definately need to keep. Besides, anyway I had to take mine down as one it was falling down, two it had asbestos in it and three it wasn't wide enough to swing a cat in. That said I would love a garage to keep the cars in. Would I be bothered to do it? Only if it had an expensive (and from what I can tell of other people's prone to always breaking) electric garage door. It would be a bit like my drive gate I always leave it open. Next door stop the car get out open the gate, drive through get out close the gate, and they do this in all and I mean all weathers - far too much hasstle!
