Away in Wales for a few days. Stayed in Rhayader a couple of days to walk sections of the Elan Valley - known as the Welsh Lake District, it is one of the most beautiful areas of unspoilt countryside. Rain arrived on day 3 so decided to move farther North. Had a last drive through the Elan Valley and up through the Aberystwyth Mountain Road - very atmospheric in the rain with mist on the mountains. What made it even more enjoyable was the lack of any other traffic as the road is narrow with passing places along most of the route. The 330d was wonderful with the 6 cylinder purring away and some decent classical music for the full effect. :)

Sorry no photos - it was just too wet to get out of the car! Now on the coast in sunny Llandudno. The F30 has returned over 48 mpg on the trip, which is impressive considering how twisty and undulating the roads are through the mountains.

It's a good run up to Llandudno too. The pass through blaenau ffestiniog with all the slate is a highlight (y)
I've got some photos of the Aber mountain road I can upload later

Yes, very scenic - like the Western Highlands but on a much smaller scale. :)

Only one problem with Llandudno - the seagulls! My car was well and truly splattered this morning. Washed it off but no doubt it will be just as bad tomorrow. Stuff is like cement and no doubt highly corrosive!

Having just recently been acquainted with the roads of County Durham, I'll nominate the road between Middleton in Teesdale and Alston in Cumbria. We had the pleasure of driving part of the way past High Force and up past Harwood. Absolutely lovely views and unspoiled moorlands, nice twisty roads too :)

Autoglym do some excellent wipes for this purpose, I keep a box of them in the glove compartment.
