Not the world's most exciting story but a weird failure on the RRS:

    D390F3B0-9B6D-4221-88BC-0E59875AE40B_1_201_a.jpeg

The 'twist' to this little event was discovering my LR Assist had expired and as I couldn't get the jack under the car to change the tyre I had to call the RAC as a non-member for £150.

It then dawned on me about 20 fuming minutes later why I couldn't get the jack under the car (we got a flat in France last year and no problems then). It was because the car was in Access Mode, the lowest suspension setting to enable people to get in and out easily. When you set off it goes to normal height but you can set it manually to off road height, even when parked...

After a quick face palm, pressed the button, raised the car and changed the wheel. 10 mins later RAC man arrives and I admit my stupidity so we have a right chuckle although I'm still £150 down for absolutely nothing.

    Oops!
I gave a winner medal as you deserve an award for silliness in the heat of the moment.......
Not a good place to get a puncture and looks like a delamination tear

That would be funny if it wasn’t so annoying for you!

Just a one off. I could have gone for membership but I overcomplicated it when I started talking about European cover, etc.

Out of curiosity, just how old is that tyre? The figures following the DOT don't resemble the 4 digit marking you usually see that indicate the date of manufacture. And it looks old.

2015, the DOT date is on the other side of the tyre. They were coming to the end of their lives anyway although they still had some miles left in them, we were going to replace them at the end of the month prior to a (ho ho) European trip anyway.

as Sean said that looks the tyre was starting to delaminate and if all the other tyres are the same age and tyre type l would be having a good look at them as well to make sure they are all in good condition and not going the same way

Tyres on the rear are eight months old, the ones on the front are less than a week so all good. Also had the alignment done but why is it that every time I get that done, on any car, the garage always leaves the steering wheel off centre? It drives me mad. I took it back, they fiddled with it and it's still not right.

tyre fitters in general get me as no matter how nice you wheels look they will do their best to trash them. scraping off nicely aligned wheel weights and leaving all the foam backing and sticky residue. and then applying horrendous amounts of crap wheel weights that rust within a week and looj like they have been thrown at the wheel from 100 paces

Best UK / European / Worldwide Breakdown Cover is from the ADAC.

It's one of the very last motor clubs solely for the benefit of the members - The RAC and AA are no more than profit seeking businesses these days.

They literally cover any car, any country, any time.

Obviously it's German based but no restrictions to a member being based in the UK.

If you breakdown outside Germany the English speaking telephone reply folks will get you the top breakdown service in whichever country you happen to be in - in the UK it's normally the AA or the RAC. In the USA it's the AAA etc. etc.

If you fall seriously ill they'll send their own ADAC air-ambulance jet to fly you home - try asking the RAC for that if you break a leg in Florida or
bitten by a snake in Australia.

No brainer compared to any other breakdown service - member and spouse €129 a year.

    https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/

If you speak to them will will always suggest that you join a club in your home country - but that is easily countered by saying you travel regularly in Germany.

I thought ADAC had stopped covering UK residents? They were my first thought but I've literally just signed up with the RAC!

Shame. The RAC and AA are far too expensive for what you get IMHO.

If I didn't have the BMW Emergency Cover I'd be looking to the ADAC or in the event that they are really not covering UK residents' I'd be doing what I did in years past - join up while in Germany - or join the ÖAMTC when passing through Austria.

I expect that like Mrs S and I you're looking forward to getting over to see relatives and friends in Croatia.

We've already missed three trips due to Covid restrictions. :(

Aye, looks like no more new registrations for UK residents, oh well.

All good here, Mrs CO is desperate to get home and see her family (I wouldn't mind getting away either) and has some dates planned this month but looking increasingly unlikely to happen. So frustrating. Still, at least we're fully jabbed up so small victories and all that.

The trouble with planning a trip to Croatia and/or Bosna i Hercegovina (once UK travel restrictions are lifted) will be checking on each transit countries rules and regulations re Covid 19.

We transit no less than seven countries and at the moment each one has different requirements.

It's going to be like planning a military exercise.

And there’s no telling how each country may fall inside or outside the red category at anytime...!!

Looks like a cut with a blade to me running with the tread then a split running across the tread.

When I first saw this post I did think you’d bought an M4 to join the fleet……
