Ah - they have a special BMW algorithm - think of a number over 150, double it, divide by 6 then add £500. Simple. But you're right there is no apparent logic to it.
Just bit the bullet with a day to go with the extended warranty. £634 for the fully comprehensive package (no roadside needed) with a £250 excess. As we are off to Spain again in January for 6 weeks (3500 mile round trip) I thought it best to get this done.
What X1 does your Mrs have? I’ve seen a few people quote £403 which makes me think it’s a standardised price for the X1 but I can’t get that price. The closest I get on my 2019 20i M sport is: £427 for full comp, £250 excess and breakdown cover, or £436 for full comp, £150 excess and no breakdown cover.
2.0 petrol X drive. £403 was the renewal price back in February Fully comp, breakdown and £250 excess Mileage was about 58,000
Just had to put it on my car after the three year manufacturer warranty expires on Wednesday. Wouldn’t be without the bmw one. Got roadside and comprehensive cover and I just did it monthly at £91 as couldn’t stomach paying it in full after also having insurance this week
Thanks for that. Mine is an S drive and with 29,800 miles. Does seem a biggish increase for a 2 wheel drive over a 4 wheel drive, especially with the mileage being half as much. I’ll probably just get the £250 excess and no breakdown as I’m only doing around 5000 miles a year now. I think you still get some break down even if you don’t pay for ‘breakdown’.
I agree. It’s worth it for the piece of mind. Even doing low now £12,000 for a new gearbox is just not worth risking.
Since my 330d was 3 years old, I've always paid for the BMW extended warranty at £522 pa fully comp. + £100 excess, and inclusive of BMW Emergency Recovery (UK and Europe). This year is the first time that the quoted price has increased, to £554 even though the mileage is still below 40K. I have never had to make a claim as the car has been completely reliable, I'm reluctant to cancel the cover. Instead I've opted to increase the excess to £250, which reduces the annual premium to £447. That seems like a good option to keep costs down. If BMW keep pushing the price of warranty up each year in future, then I'll think again.
Just done this on mine back in late October for just under £1000 all in one for everything plus breakdown and £250 excess or £92 a month. I opted for monthly thinking I may swap cars. Man maths calculator deduced that over 3 years I will save £3000 plus a years tax so £3600 in total by changing the car
Renewal has just come through for Mrs Eds X1 Last year with 58000 miles / comprehensive plus roadside assistance and £250 excess - £403. This year with 66000 miles and same cover - £627 Large increase once you get to 60000 miles
The chap at BMW insurance told me the car warranty bit of the quote increases by 50%, once the car hits 60k miles at renewal. But considering the cost of parts and labour, I’ll probably keep mine going until it time to change cars
Having purchased our E92 in early 2011, extended cover wasn’t considered for a couple of years. When I eventually enquired drive train cover was about 850€ per annum - I didn’t bother. At that rate I would have forked out over €10,000, say £8,500. Currently quotations for full cover range from €1000 to €1500. Repairs have so far consisted of replacing two exhaust sensors installed by myself (neither of which cured the fault), and a glow plug controller installed by BMW dealer. Total cost £478.92. I think I’m ahead. Having said that, I’m not too sure I would have risked it if it had been M coupe rather than a 330D.
