That looks like an absolute bargain. If I had garage space and another £10k in my car pot, I’d be there!
Oh yes! That is a thing of beauty. My Uncle had one of those in black when they first came out. I had the opportunity to drive it. Still one of the fastest and mind blowing drives I’ve ever experienced. Good for him!
I think he's bonkers personally Having driven 700 miles in this car on a recent 1500 mile tour of Scotland this Z4 has the more than enough power for UK roads imho. I just can't compute the cost to change and think it's going to be that much better. But he has that itch...
It’s a hugely irrational itch, the Porky one! Logically, there’s nothing I do day to day in my 911 that can’t be done in a hot hatch for half the money. But there’s a feeling which is difficult to put your finger on which is why I can’t help but grin every time I turn the “key”, walk up to it or turn to look as I walk away. I’d love to be more rational about cars; I’d be a lot wealthier if I were. But I fully get your neighbours “problem”!
Well the deal is not quite over the line yet! Porsche have offered too little on the p.ex nor will they budge on the asking price on a straight purchase (no p.ex) despite there being some issues (PPF is just starting to lift in corners and there are some stone chips). They won't budge because they say they've already spent £6500 on prepping the car including new drive belts, tyres, brake pads etc etc So he's waiting for the Z4 to sell first and will probably take a further £1000 off it to anyone interested!
Oh man! Thats a shame and hope it hasn’t tarnished the experience too much from the outset. Wish him all the best however it progresses.
Hold firm he has the upper hand they want money, they will budge. There will always be another one down the road. Persevere! I will say you get to a point where you've looked at so many, you do kind of give in. Be strong and hold firm. I tend to go with "ok, I'll leave it". They have always phoned me before I get home.
Well the dealer has reduced the price of the Turbo S by £2000 but not even bothered to contact my neighbour Dave - poor salesmanship! He's downed tools for Xmas now and will review everything in the New Year. If someone wants the Zed in the meantime he'll still sell as uses his M340d G21 as an everyday motor.
That’s really poor! I admire his patience. Even with the poor taste that leaves in the mouth, if I wanted the car, I’d be straight down there!
Well a complete turnaround in car choice from my neighbour whose gone and bought a brand new M car and traded his purple M340d touring. Got a great deal with service inclusive, wheel and tyre insurance for 3 years. Got extended Merino leather and Driving Assistant Professional. Individual colour...think it's Marine Blue.
Very nice! But a very big change of heart. Do you think he’ll still end up in a 911 in due course? These itches tend not to go away (ask me how I know! )
Let's see how he gets on with this. Have been asked to do another organised road trip probably to Europe so this is likely to be a big tester.
The M3 looks great, I hope he enjoys it. BMW dealers get a lot of bashing on here and other sites but I think overall they are better than most other marque's. When I was in my late 20's I was fortunate enough to own several used Porsche including a couple of 944's and a 964 911. The customer service I experienced at the main dealer in Newcastle was in general woeful in sales and service. This could have been because of my age but there always appeared to be a huge arrogance that 'we are Porsche'. My garage queen 944 has not been to a main dealer since 1999 and goes to specialists if work is required. Fast forward to last year and me looking at used Taycan to replace my 6GC and my experience of speaking to a couple of Porsche main dealers (Leeds, Newcastle and Teesside) did not do anything to change my opinion. 'Porsche do not discount cars, we don't need to' was the best from Porsche in Leeds. Phone calls not returned and a general disinterest in me because I was not wanting to finance my purchase led me back to BMW again so I can understand your neighbours move. Such a shame as Porsche do make some fantastic cars which I generally love just let down by the dealers.
