Thanks for posting this update. I’ve still not received my paper V5 after eleven weeks of owning the car, have the V5C green slip. Looking at this update it seems that there are no paper applications being accepted, so, what has happened to the form sent in by the supplying garage...?? I’ve emailed them to ask but have had a bounce back email stating they are out of the office, which is understandable given the current circumstance. Any idea what I should do? The DVLA want £25 for a replacement form.....
I got my new 640d about the same time as you got your 440i and I got the new V5 within about a week so something isn't right. Can you not phone the DVLA and ask if they have a record of it?
I would just wait until the New Year to see if they clear the backlog. Unless you actually need the V5 for any reason, what's the point of applying for a new one?
Don’t need one for any reason, just makes me twitch that the papers aren’t all in order. Agree that it isn’t the time of year to be calling them, will wait until early Jan. The car is taxed and insured/MOT’d so all is well.
If you have the V5C green slip I would suggest that you keep that with you as if DVLA seemingly haven't updated their records then the Police were you to have any involvement for what ever reason wont have had PNC updated with your details as the registered keeper Whilst it is probably even less of proof of ownership than a V5 at least it will assist in showing that you are in legal possession of the car
Following on from @blackrat comments I thought I’d better be safe! A helpful live chat gave me a link, the last V5 was issued on 12/10/20, two days after I’d purchase the car, so it is registered in my name/address. Phew. Will give it another few weeks, if it doesn’t arrive I will need to do a V62 and apply for a replacement.
This has just made me think, and we haven't had the v5 for our car that we collected 16/10.20. The dealer completed the paperwork on line and taxed it there and then, he didn't give us the green slip. I remember him having to input my details in to be able to tax it as the new keeper. The Dvla tax-checker site shows last v5 was issued 26/3/16, interesting indeed. Not much point chasing it until the new year I suppose. Funnily enough, I did get the discharge letter and tax refund for the Focus though within a week. This car has been re-taxed for 12 months, presumably by a new owner but also doesn't show a new v5 issued either.
It doesn't sound like the dealer has sent the paperwork to DVLA. I would be chasing them, if you can contact them. Very strange that they didn't give you the new owner slip - that's essential proof if you happen to get stopped before you've got the new V5. Was it a BMW main dealer?
wow l cant believe all the stories of long delays on V5 replacements l have had great service from the DVLA in the last month and all my V5s have been received in days l took my private plate off the 5GT and new V5 was with me in days and when collected the car on a Thursday the new V5 for the 6GT was with me on the Tuesday of the following week l will wat until they are back after the Christmas break before l assign my plate to the new car could have done it today but other things just got in the way
Ok I have to admit, I have given misleading information above..... We keep the paperwork for each of the vehicles its own A4 box file and I went into the BMW one yesterday to check something in the handbook, and noticed the green new keeper slip is stapled to the back of the receipt. It is filled out and not in my writing, so I'm relieved the dealer did the paperwork properly you'd expect. At least if I have to apply by post for the V5 that never appeared it won't cost me £25 as I have the slip, so that's good. My other half's work friend bought an approved used Hyundai Tucson in early November (a lovely car indeed) and also hasn't got his document either.
I’ve filled in the V62 and posted it with the green slip. Although the V5 has been registered in my name/address, it has obviously been lost in the post, hence the need for a new one.
The gnomes at MOT Central have been busy recently. A load of updates yesterday 11th Jan 21 Most of them are closing loopholes and clarification on motorcycle lighting. I have updated the link to the full MOT regs in the Data & Info section of the forum: https://www.bmwland.org.uk/index.php?threads/latest-current-version-of-mot-testers-manual.1264/ Most of the changes are about closing loopholes and clarification on motorcycle lighting, which may affect those of us who use 2 wheels on occasion. There is also confirmation that MOT centres CAN stay open during the lockdowns throughout GB. Note that they say CAN and not WILL or MUST. once again the DVLA have turned my V5 around in record time. l assigned my private plate to the 6GT at lunchtime on Monday and the new V5 was on the doormat this morning. so every dealing that l have had with the DVLA during the coronavirus pandemic has been excellent but it has all been onlne rather than sending in paper documents to be processed manually l know that people that have been sending in paper documents to Swansea have been seeing very long delays and this has been made worse by the fact that they have had an outbreak of Covid with 350 cases in total and 65 cases since December the 1st so with staff off sick and other staff off self isolating they have been hit quite badly hence the long delays
Although they had originally issued the new V5 for mine in mid October, I still hadn’t received this, so sent the green slip and the form off a few weeks ago, no V5 yet.
that is where the problems have been when you send in documents they have been taking for ever to process when l took my plate off the car in early December l received the new V5 showing the original registration of the car within days it also had a slip saying please shred your old V5 so in my wisdom l promptly put the new V5 in the shredder and kept the old one massive panic set in as the 5GT was sold at this point but l no longer had the new V5 for the trade in. so l jumped on line to request a new V5 and the response was "sorry a V5 has been issued for that vehicle in the last 7 days so you cant order a new one. at this Point l had to take to the phones and call them after a fairly long period on hold l got through to a very helpful chap who sorted me in no time at all l also had to pay £25.00 because of my stupidity and a replacement for the replacement arrived in three days When that arrived l picked it up off the mat and said to myself. "step away from the shredder"
Saw that report, worrying. My V5 arrived early last week, bit of a miracle given what they are going through recently.
