Got a Frozen Black 5er with matt PPF. I'd like to improve its hydrophobic properties so it’s easy to clean and also provide some UV protection for summer. Heard all sorts of horror stories about what can and can’t be done. Anyone tried coating it, what with, and what was the outcome? Washing it I use a foam gun with 50/50 Polar Blast & Fairy liquid, rinse off with tap water & hose brush, wipe over with wash mitt then rinse off with DI water. Comes up a treat, a deep rich black without smears or haze. Rain water lays flat on the surface and won't bead, general road splat attaches it's self quite readily whereas it would eventually slide off normal paint on its own.
I’ve read that it’s possible to gain a hydrophobic surface on matte paintwork/ppf, using seething like this: https://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/gyeon-q2-matte-evo-light But the prep is key, you’d need to do a full decontamination and degrease prior to application, otherwise it would be a waste of time. Where abouts in the country are you? The detailer I used for my BG G21 also does matte coatings, he is a really helpful bloke. Also, we definitely need photos of this car…!
I could be very wrong, but I would suspect the fairy liquid is too strong for a car application, even diluted, it will be stripping/degreasing any protection the PPF has. Certainly don’t be using it after any paint protection application.
Thanks for this, I'll research that product in more detail. I'm Located East Midlands. Couple of pic's of "Betty". Far as I know only Frozen Black B5 in the UK and (dunno for sure) possibly the only one.
