Random thing to post about I know, but they are driving me mad. We live in an area with lots of trees, which is a good thing, but there has been a big increase in the number of seeds falling from the sky recently. The past three years have been worse. I’m thinking these are from the abundance of silver birch trees we have lining our road, am I right? There are huge “drifts” of these up and down the road, as well as in all drains etc. The worst thing is how small they are, these get into all the drain holes in the car and block them up. Bizarrely the season for these seems to run from late April and are still falling.
I know the ones you mean! I’m not impacted but mother in law is. I got my trusty Karcher hoover out and hovered inside all of the scuttle panels below the windscreen. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
Unusual amount of pollen off the same trusty Silver Birch trees this year, the cars are covered in a light green/yellow dusting. I cleared the frost off the car this morning and it was a weird green sludge. Looks like this now:
I've got all that to come. We are a bit behind up here, birch is about to burst out in the next few days. My car turns green with the pollen most years.... then the sticky stuff... then all the leaves in autumn. Locals call the birch 'weeds' up here in the Glen. As a side issue, due to the milder winters, (climate change) birch trees are growing too fast and often so weak they can simply break in two. We've got acres of birch on the family croft, where the wood is so poor it's not even worth felling for fire wood, let alone anything else. Peter
Exactly the same here, silver birch overhangs the driveway. After washing i had to use IPA to remove the residue. Will give it good wax later.
Back in the 50s when this road was developed someone saw that it was a wise plan to add dozens of silver birch trees. There is one for every four houses. The council trim them every few years, but they are going mad. I’ve lived here 8 years and have noticed it is getting worse each year. Here is the one right outside my house:
