Yes, I know I have been on a real brake frenzy across the fleet (and probably need to get out more) except this time it’s new front discs for my C63S and an upgrade from 1.5 part rotors to 2 part full floating Brembos. At 390mm they are monsters! Bought from a supplier with a warranty where they replace worn out parts, so long as you still own the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They are beasts! I follow a channel on YouTube called Italia Autos, local garage from back in the day when I had Alfa’s, he was fitting some two piece Brembo front discs to a Fiat 500 Arbarth 595. £520 per disc!! The most expensive discs he’d ever fitted. They were two piece units just like those. He said that the car owner managed to get a 50% off deal at ECP. Still, eye watering for such a little car.
Even with 25% discount, the standard discs were £768 from a MB dealer. They are known as 1.5 part as they are not true 2 piece rotors. The ones I bought can be purchased from MB dealers (still made by Brembo, just with a MB part number) as they are fitted to some models eg C63 Black series and yes they are even more expensive. PH did a great write up of the C63, I thought of yours when reading. I’d imagine that good stoppers are an essential piece of kit with all those mad German horses to contend with. https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-buying-guides/mercedes-amg-c63-w205-ph-used-buying-guide/44152
Thanks, that’s good to read and good to see the estate is considered the pick of the bunch, with prices hardening. They might mislead in the brake replacement cost though, presumably based on the non S which had one piece rotors on the front which are affordable, whilst the S models (spotted by the red callipers) have the expensive 1.5 part rotors. I hope they have some life left in those ceramics. Don’t even want to think about replacement costs…..
I initially kept a good look out for carbon ceramics on the Porsche. Once or twice a GTS / Turbo came up with them and quite fancied them for the lack of brake dust and longevity which would have well outlasted any ownership of mine and therefore reduced potential running costs. However, it was exactly the above and risk you run from someone else's cackhandedness which put me off. And the fact there were literally only one or two cars specced with them.....
