The AC has been constantly on since we bought the car at 3 months old, hasn’t helped stop the compressor failing.
That’s bad luck, I suppose next step is to confirm fully gassed and leak check. If all else is working and no leak then a puzzle for sure.
That is low gas. Which will be the first thing a garage will do. I have just found out that oil goes in with the gas at a particular weight. Go to a reputable, experienced garage for a regas and investigation, or else you could have a short term fix but expensive failure next year. You may know that when your AC is working, leave it on or use it for 20 mins every week to avoid leaks and issues in future. Both my BMWs are useless at the moment due to AC issues. My menopausal wife's 21yo Subaru has AC on constantly and has never been regassed!
The oil keeps the seals lubricated, when the AC isn’t used often enough they dry out, hence the system become less efficient as the gas escapes. Many years ago my AC man saved the need to replace the expensive items by locating one dry seal on an Alfa 159. The dye/pressure test showed a leak on a joint a 50p seal and all was cold again. Unlucky that a compressor or condenser goes bump, not really to do with low gas pressure more to do with a component failure.
