I saw this picture recently and my feelings towards the grille remain the same - it still doesn’t look right to me.

I wonder if they will change it in the LCi?

BMW won't change it until a completely new model is restyled. The cost of reworking all the surrounding panels alone, would be substantial. That's apart from having to modify the cooling infrastructure. Hideous though it is - they are stuck with it.

I’ve seen a few in the steel since they were released into the wild, and I’m growing indifferent to them. Maybe worrying but they are slowly growing on me, or I’m just having to accept seeing them.
I think the larger SUVs such as the X7 are more in your face due to the sheer hugeness of them. No escaping those gulping great grills.

I agree, they are not so bad in the metal. BMW are not alone it seems many manufacturers are doing the huge grill thing now just look at some of the latest offerings from Audi, Mercedes or Ford..

It's a shame. The first 4 series vert had a "normal", grill, only for this carbuncle of a grill to appear in 2020. Obviously not needed for air supply, just a monstous styling mistake.
