2017 Map Update.

    I'm just off the phone from talking to BMW HQ in Farnborough re when the new maps will become available.

    Apparently they are getting loads of similar enquiries.

    I'm told that it will be approx mid-January before map 2017-1 becomes available via Connected Drive.

    According to the chap I spoke to there were only two updates for 2016 - namely 2016-1 which my car came with in December 2015 and the current map 2016-2.

    It is not fixed that there will always be only two updates - there is no reason why some years there may be three or even four.

    I'm also told that the BMW numbering system does not match exactly the code numbers that may be available from other sources despite almost all of them coming from the same company - in The Netherlands I believe.

    My Garmin is already running 2017.20 maps so that confirms there is no correlation between the numbering system there.

    I last updated the maps in July to 2016-2 and it was very easy.

    I installed the BMW Update Manager from the Connected Drive website and simply followed the instructions.

    It first downloaded them to my laptop, then transferred them to a memory-stick - I used a 64GB one but 32GB would have been enough.

    I then popped it into the slot in the centre arm-rest, typed in the '1st -Time Security Code' and the car then installed them.

    I don't have that GB & IE bit.

    I have the whole of Europe 2016-2

    I asked about that this morning as well - and apparently my system has all the maps as one package - no need to specify Europe West or Europe East - or what you have - a separate update for GB & IE.

    The Connected Drive web-site shows that the latest available map is called Road Map EUROPE Route 2016-2

    It seems that there is a whole load of different systems and map combinations around depending on what one's car left the factory with.

    All of them cost me nothing to download as they are included in the purchase price of the car.

    AFAIK the updates are free for three years from first registration and then can be extended by renewing the Connected Drive subscription.

    I also have to say the 'the whole of Europe' does not cover the entire road network. The one that is missing for me is Bosna i Hercegovina where I have only the major Roads and the streets in Sarajevo.

    I can't understand why BiH is so long in being added as they already include obscure places such as Kosovo and Albania.

    Has anyone got full coverage of BiH from another source?

    Mother-in-law moved into her new build property in Nov 2015 but her postcode (MK42 7GS) doesn't appear on the 2017-1 map update.
    She regularly gets phone calls from delivery drivers asking for directions :(

    It would seem that I don't have the map update option with the car although it is under 3 yrs old, nore do I have the option to purchase the connected drive download option? Connected drive have no idea why and sent me to a dealer who wanted £108 for the update on a usb with a one time only code.

    Anyways now all sorted thanks to google ;) and now have Europe NEXT 2017-1 for NBT loaded and running perfectly. Bought a lifetime FSC code from the US for about £20 which worked perfectly.

    so I now have Europe Next 2017-1 for NBT available if anyone would like a copy? PM me and I will send you my address for you to send me a decent 32gb usb stick as the folder size is 29.4GB. Fat 32 only. All I ask is that you enclose a stamped addressed envelope for the return.

    The usb will be ready to go when returned, just plug in and follow the on screen instructions but you will need a code for your car this is only the maps.

    All updates done at your own risk I take no responsibility for any screw ups !:eek:

    Done mine today no issues approx 45 mins to update. Pic as below

    That's a very kind offer Mr Zoom - typical of the camaraderie that makes this forum so great. (y)

    I'm in no panic for the 2017 maps as I have no big trips planned until February at the earliest.

    However ........ if these rascals at BMW Connected Drive don't come up with the goods by the end of January I'll take you up on that offer.

    It would be good if you could keep us posted in the future when that lifetime subscription gives you the next update.

    With a lifetime code, the next time you update do you have to re enter the code!

    I think I lost mine.....

    Just be aware these "lifetime FSC codes subscriptions" do not work after 1 year. The reason being BMW have sussed this clandestine coding and have changed some coding in the map updates.

    There are two of us (that I know of) on the forum who have discovered this and we both get sent a new code when the iDrive asks for the new code.

    This is the reason we go to the UK site for codes.

    Thanks for your comments after all we are all here to try and assist each other when possible. The life time code included the maps so @ £23.00 is was a no brainer as the once only code was £15 without the map download from the sellers google drive. It was not a torrent download 2hrs on a non fibre connection from his google drive.

    The seller was in the US & has a direct link to the BMW database for the FSC apparently. I just sent him the last 7 from my vin & the code was in my personal email with 10 mins.

    I think it depends where it came from if you calculate yourself then this maybe the case. Reports on the US sites have had no issues. Either way it was a no brainer as he included the maps for me.

    I am sorry to say it is general everywhere. I do not calculate this myself and I have been doing map updates since 2014 and purchased my lifetime code from.....

    Note. All these people use the same link to the BMW database. The UK guy with whom I used to talk to on the phone did it all in a matter of minutes.

    Kev2005 did the same and received a new code when he experienced the same.

    I do not have to pay anything more because the guy in question (Tony) honours all lifetime codes when BMW change the software.
