need some help. Since we bought the X1 3.5 years ago (3 month old 2100 miles) it does not open the boot on remotes or drivers door if it is pointing downhill, unless I use force. It has had 4 sessions in the dealers without success. This is really annoying as we need the boot to get our dog in and out.

The last time dealer agreed it was doing it , but said try keeping finger on the button longer ----- that does not work

    Any ideas ??????????

That’s a weird one for sure.
Is it a powered boot then but only opens uphill if you are at the boot lid to assist it?
Has it had anything replaced or adjusted to try and rectify it?

It sounds like the struts aren’t powerful enough to lift with the additional load due to the hill angle. Camp at the dealer until they fix it.

Yes power boot opening , it opens as it should with car pointed uphill, using key fob or the button drivers door.
Pointing downhill it opens about 1" no more , its then a case of forceing it open.
Parked on level opens most ,but not all times.
Nothing replaced , dealer claims to have tried a few adjustments.

Sounds like first port of call is to replace the motor(s), I think they’re in the struts on them but not sure if both sides are or just one. I’d expect both, I don’t understand why the dealer haven’t already done that.

Does sound like a weakness/failure in the motors, or, the struts are not strong enough.
On my F32 (no powered opening) when opening the boot with the remote it will open all the way by itself if the car is slightly facing uphill. On the flat or facing downhill the boot just clicks open. This suggests that the struts on mine have enough push to open when there is limited resistance, as in the boot is on a downward rear slope, but not enough in other circumstances. I’d wonder if this could mirror your situation?
Any weeping of the struts or loose fixings?

My G32 has a powered rear hatch. Big unit. Never an issue to open or close whatever the orientation of the car.

Car now booked dealer early March ,with the MoT
They will look at it , but will not say they will fix it as they are controlled by "getting authority from BMW."

If you have time, demonstrate the fault with a tech before you leave it.

UPDATE. The car went in for MoT and the boot on 1st March 2022 .. They found a fault so ordered the parts. !!!!!!!

Car back in 17th March 2022 and they replaced the "Automatic Boot Drive Unit" and all is now working OK , after 4 years.

The unfortunate bit is all my gps locations have gone , the settings on the 1-8 buttons all gone ,the boot press on the key now only opens the boot , not the car doors as well, the drivers door only opens the drivers door unless I press it twice (I have now reset the door openings) It seems in doing the boot they have removed info from the car back to factory settings. .

It also gave my the chance to do a few miles in a 330e.

The dealers seems to have changed attitude to prices , the MoT brought up deep cuts in two tyres (I had recently run over steel on the M56 off a lorry , driver was on hard shoulder reroping) As soon as I pointed out he was miles out with tyre price he reduced it, it was about the same as I paid 12 month before. I have since checked with my local tyre depot I normally use and they were £1 per tyre cheaper. They have also discounted other bits I needed recently.

Sounds like you have had an I level upgrade which is done whenever a new component is fitted, hence the loss of personal settings etc. Standard practise

As bmwzoom said, it must have had a software update on the car. If it updates the head unit it very often loses the personal settings. Always best to have the profile saved to a usb stick although the tech doing the job could have also done it.
