Managed to get a replacement reverse camera so that’s fixed. Bluetooth, parking sensors, wheels to refurbish and sent in tailgate to remove and it will be looking pretty good again

So the car has now done 126,000 miles. We went to Cornwall on holiday last week and my brother borrowed it to come down with us.

Sadly he had gearbox issues on the way down. RAC came out and reset codes whilst they were looking at the Kodiaq which had overheated. Car is at Land Rover and they are saying to do an oil change for £800 or leave it. Can’t leave it and I’m convinced it’s the valve body, but LR only want to fit a gearbox at the moment so waiting on a price in both.

Cars only worth £6,000 at best so could be curtains for it now with the repair cost.

After a bit of thinking we’ve decided to have a new gearbox forte at Land Rover and hopefully get the car back this weekend coming. Probably spending 90% of the value of the car to repair it, but other option is then a new car which for something that doesn’t get used much is more than extravagant and a newer supercharged Range Rover is around £60,000 so going to continue with this one for a bit longer.

    Cheers

I tried to bring the entertainment system up to date and ordered a kit that used the digital feed from the dvd player to stream/mirror your phone on to the rear screens and the front screen. However, I could never get it to mirror my phone properly and stream Netflix etc…so changed the kit for one with an hdmi input and fitted a fire stick that worked beautifully on all of the screens with great sound.

However, it only ever worked once so I took it back out and after speaking £400 on this kit, I’ve sold it and spent £13 after realising I had the inputs in the back console already so connected the fire stick in to these connections and can watch it on the rear screens with headphones so the front of the car isn’t disturbed.

The dvd player packed up a few years ago as well as the Bluetooth so need to get these two bits sorted really.

Wires a bit untidy but for the small outlay worth putting up with and can just remove it fairly instantly when needed

    Cheers

Hope you get many years more enjoyment out of it Alex, it looks in perfect condition. The interior quality & ambience of those cars is something else, I'd be really proud to own one if I could afford it.

A very senior colleague has just had some bad luck with his identical looking RR, an minimal mileage 06 reg model V8 petrol. He purchased it a couple of months ago from it's first and only previous owner, a distant family member of his, who warned him the running costs were high, but wow....

A week or so ago, he sadly caught a pillar when turning in an underground car park. He wanted to have it repaired privately, however a couple of places have quoted up to £2000 for a mirror & almost £4000 for a new door as a repair or new skin etc is not appropriate as (he is told) the door is aluminium. He knows the insurance will write it off as that's almost its value, but he's ringing them anyway on Monday and going car shopping this weekend for something else in readiness.

The RR replaced his 07 diesel Jaguar S-type that he'd had from almost new until the gearbox began to fail and was unviable to repair, so not much luck for him lately !

Don’t know if any other damage, but I’d be looking at the breakers for a new door and mirror assembly and then find a reputable indie or body shop to do the work.

If it was me, I'd have just replaced or repaired the mirror and left the door bashed in.

The RR has just ticked over 130,000 miles. Service and MOT took over 6 weeks at LR as waiting for parts for two rear bulbs to pass the MOT!

Used it at the weekend and did a 400 mile round trip from home to Donington for the first race of the season and back again on Sunday. Still nice to drive.

Managed to repair my Bluetooth phone kit that had failed previously and also have a spare unit too.

    Still really like it
