The 328i went in for it's annual MOT yesterday and came out clean again. Not surprisingly as has only done 350 miles in the last 12 months.

The car is a garage queen (we run two other cars in the family) and is only used on dry days between May and October. We are also building a new house within our garden at present and a lot of my time is being taken up with this. Mrs Mad has had long covid for 18 months and doesn't use it.

Will have had the car 8 years next month and spent a lot of time and money making it look great again.

So the question is would I regret selling it?

If it's any help I was in a similar position during the first lockdown.
    I had a very nice 1972 MG B roadster that I simply wasn't using.
I decided to sell it and let someone else get some enjoyment out of it.

It sold very quickly and made me a tidy profit as like you I had it for about 8 or 9 years.

Have I missed it? Not in the least, more space in the garage, one less car to service, tax (Free but it still had to be done) insure (Cheap as chips) and MOT
(exempt but I still had it done)

I can't guarantee you won't regret it as we are all different but for me it was the right choice.

    Carl.

One part of me says yes - those cars, in that condition, are very rare now. It could be that you'll look back and wonder "what if", but on the other hand, you may also have had your time with it and it's now time for someone else to enjoy - as with @Carl W above.

I'm in a similar position with my motorhome now. I think I've psychologically made the leap now after having dithered for months over it. When I was using it properly and living in it, it was doing up to around 4k miles pa. Recently it's done just the odd thousand and this year, barely turned a wheel. Even less likely with our young son not being the ideal fit for it right now.

It's time for it to go and for someone else to not just enjoy it, but to spend the time & money required to keep it tip top. I'll be sad to see it go, but like @Carl W I won't miss the tax, insurance, servicing and time required to keep a motorhome at its best.

If you really miss your E36, then I'm sure there's a whole host of other options out there in due course which will tick similar boxes but also allow you to enjoy a different kind of motoring too. :)

    Appreciate the responses and thoughts.

It's probably not the right time of year to sell it for good money and I can see the value increasing a little if I keep it through to the spring. I could probably get £7500 to £8000 for it now. It's only done 86000 miles.

Problem is the F11 is getting on now at 11 years this December and ideally I would replace both with one car that ticks the boxes that each provides. This however is not possible at present until we finish the house build and know whether Mrs Mad at only 51 is ever going to be able to work again.

I decided to stick with it until we review the fleet sometime next year once we have moved into the new house. Once things have hopefully settled down should have more time to have fun and some road trips. If not the value isn't down on these so no loss.

    Thread revival.

Well the E36 sailed through the MOT yesterday. Having only done 97 miles since last years it should do

Only taxed it in August due to commitments with the house build. Next year hopefully may see a few 1000 put on it.
