My car has had 1 service prior to me owning it but it was buy an independent and not a BMW dealer and the service was not entered on their main system.

I have bought a paper service book for the car and I want to know the date and mileage of the first service. It's showing that it's not due until June next year but that obviously doesn't tell me at what date and mileage it was reset.

If there any way that I can check what the date and mileage was when the service indicator was reset?

    It's a 2017 X1 (F48).

    Many thanks,

    Matt.

The default setting used by BMW dealers seems to be 2 years / 19000 miles...thats what they have set noth ours to for "next service due"

So IF the Indy followed those guidelines you can work back from the next service due date to work out when it was serviced and work back from the "miles to next service" to a mileage at that date

Thanks Ed, yeah, I was going to do as you suggest, but just wanted to find out if I could find a way to interrogate the cars menu's to get the actual date and mileage. Aside from anything else, if it is possible it'll look moody if my calculated best guess date and mileage is different to what's available in a hidden menu, if you get what I mean.

Anything not backed up with a wad of detailed receipts is moody to me.....

If buying from a dealer you will unlikely get any of the receipts or invoices, they will cite Gdpr as it will have the previous keeper's name and address on. For some reason this is a state secret nowadays, even the V5 doesn't have it anymore.

It was always because of 'false stamps' in the service book that we were advised by consumer organisations to check the invoices etc to back it up, or even ring the garage up to ask them to confirm the information, but that it now pointless. It will be a free for all with made up service history now at dodgy dealers.

When we got our car recently, there wasn't even a service book. They did give us a printout which is actually more detailed, also less likely to be fiddled too, as retrospective changes would be impossible on the Munich server. (Hopefully !) I could see in the folder, invoices & two mot certificates but he said he would destroy those too...

It is quite sad really, as I have always collected the paperwork for each vehicle and it stays in a box file to be passed on, now they will just shred it all. Is this the real outcome the Gdpr legislation set out to achieve ? Just think of all those cars people such as KGF Classics sell, do they destroy the history too or is it BMW's interpretation of it ?

sadly in the world of newer BMWs the dealers aren't interested in a paper trail. when my 5GT went in as part ex all they were interested in was the key read as long as that checked out he was happy

the dealer could see the history on the key and the owner could see the history on the l Drive and that seems to be the modern way
