Back in February I decided to give the Carplan No1 a try.

CarPlan was not very high in my list of proven detailing product manufacturers - if I'm honest I used to scoff at most Carplan stuff, preferring to buy much more expensive products, but after hearing a few good reports I reckoned it was worth a try - nothing to lose, etc.

This was in preparation for our twice a year trip to the Balkans to visit our relations in several countries.

Of course Covid 19 arrived and we haven't done any significant journeys this year.

This was a major clean-up after the Winter, so I washed and polished the car as usual with a whole load of Autoglym products - Polar Blast - Shampoo and Conditioner - Super Resin Polish - Extra Gloss Protection - followed by a once-over with BMW Nano Wax.

Normally that would have been the job finished - but now it was the turn of the Carplan No 1

It's simplicity itself to apply - it's water-thin and needs no effort at all - just spread it on with a microfibre and then a quick buff-up, and you have a super ultra shiny finish.

Water beaded on it great - unfortunately no pics were take - silly me.

But here are some pics from mid March, after 6 weeks:

    20200310_093511[1].jpg

    20200310_093609[1].jpg

And here are some from today - after 6 months:

    20200807_205833[1].jpg

    20200807_205911[1].jpg

Not a lot of difference between the six weeks and the six months - I'm well impressed, especially as the car is never garaged, just sits outside in all weathers, and has had nothing except a quick hose down every now and again.

Impressed so much so that when it comes to preparing for winter - for me that means when the clocks change and I get the Winters wheels on - I'm simply going to give the car a good wash and go over it with the Carplan No1 and not bother with any of the other polishes and coatings.

It's amazing stuff - it's like teflon this 'nano effect' - any dirt or grime just rinses off - except for the flies of course - which get the AG Active Insect Remover treatment which doesn't affect the underlying coating.

In all my years of cleaning and polishing cars, since long before the word 'detailing' was ever thought of, I've never tried such an effective product - and it only costs £10.40 at Halfords - or £6.90 at carpartsforless.

    Billy bargain Bob!
It’s always pleasing when a new product is stumbled across, I learnt that user experiences greatly differ and it’s all in the application to merit results...
Until I realised how many products I stock piled, I’ve been pleased at many results on both our cars with low cost products, whilst I’m a little and often cleaner I’m amazed at how products can be be used incorrectly,
I often watch my neighbours lathering on the products with heavy squirts per panel in direct sunlight I’m past the stage of intervention....

So summing up I believe it’s all in the application, the next person may find product troublesome if the groundwork is not done, if the prep is complete the result will merit the effort!

    No. 1 Super Gloss.jpg

After reading @Singvogel's post above, I decided to try out the Carplan No. 1 Super Gloss.

I gave the car a good wash yesterday, starting with AG Foam Wash and then AG Shampoo and Conditioner. I never got around to decontaminating the paintwork or applying any polish, but couldn't resist testing the No. 1 Super Gloss. I have to say that I'm impressed with the result. It is so simple to apply - just spray on sparingly and wipe off with a MF cloth, using another to buff. It literally took me 15 minutes to do the whole car, and it resulted in a nice shiny slick finish.

I'm not sure whether it's quite as good as using AG SR Polish followed by a good carnauba wax, such as AG Ultra High Definition Wax, but it's not far off. And it's the difference of half a day's labour with lots of elbow grease, compared to 15 minutes easy application.

I shall decontaminate the paintwork and polish it when it warms up in a few weeks, and then re-apply No. 1

So thanks for the recommendation, Bob. The Carplan treatment does seem like a bargain and saves a lot of hard work. (y)

    What a relief - you're happy with it. (y)

I've been waiting in trepidation in case you reported back that it was rubbish.

It's always like that when one recommends a new product that seems to go against accepted wisdom.

I would agree that it's not quite up to the level of SRP + EGP + UHD/Carnuba wax or similar traditional top coat.

But my goodness it's close enough for me these days and its so easy.

I suffer from arthritis of the fingers and came to dread the twice a year polishing regime that I was so reluctant to give up on.

My arthritis was severe enough to make holding a steering wheel for several hours an unpleasant experience.

For someone who is in the habit of going on trips that mean three thousand miles in four to five days, several times a year, that was most depressing.

But just like the thought of prolonged polishing, that's all history now - due to having a heated steering wheel - I'll never buy another car without that feature.

The CarPlan bottle says "10 minute treatment - lasts 12 months" - that may a bit of an exaggeration but it certainly does well over 6 months, even on a car that sits out in all weathers.

I'm hoping that once I decontaminate and polish the paintwork in a few weeks time, I'll get even better results with the No.1. None of us is getting any younger, and I also appreciate any easy options to save on the aches and pains after hours polishing cars. I can see the tub of Carnauba wax gathering dust at the back of the cupboard now I've found No.1 Super Gloss. :)

    Hi,

Do you need to dry the car off or let it dry before application?

Will give this a try, some of the modern products are so easy to use, I usually top my regular washes with auto finesse finale which is a doddle to use, my wife loves it, can be used on wet panels too and can be applied to matt black plastic panels etc and enhances finish. Spray on and buff with a Microfibre....easy.

This Carplan stuff looks similar and I will give it go sounds more durable than finale and just as easy to use.

No danger of making mistakes with this

l am sure some people can get it wrong because as with most modern detailing products this seems to be less is best. 2 sprays per panel is plenty

l gave a work college a half litre bottle of autosmart topaz to try on his creeper van and he put the whole bottle on then left it to harden in the sun and complained that it was hard to get off and was all streaky when he did manage to buff it off

I found another useful application for the Carplan No.1 Gloss - on the glass panels of the bathroom shower.

First, I cleaned the panels with good quality glass cleaner and then applied the No.1 Gloss and buff off with microfibre cloth. It really aids water run-off and prevents soap residue. Just rinse the glass panels with the shower head and they dry clean and shiny. So a useful product for both car and house. (y)
