Bugger! How did that happen? Could the bumper be reshaped and then resprayed or do you reckon you'll need a new one?

Small mercy, but at least the boot lid looks undamaged.

Not sure about the insurance aspect.

For the fault, best to get the fault codes read, which will narrow down what has failed. Obviously you'd notice if an airbag had gone off, but things like seat-belt pre-tensioners firing aren't always so obvious.

Be leaving all that to repairers...insurance guy did mention technicians would need a look...was a hefty bump ,both airbags deployed in car that hit mine .

I would suspect that will take a while to sort. If I was yer man next door I would cancel insurance.

Murphy has been out again :swear:

The deformable bumper support or whatever it’s called should be about where you got that whack. Hopefully it has done its job and chassis is ok. Fairly innocuous on first glance but could be frightening to fix cost wise.

    Ouch! That’s terrible timing
Having had a couple of bumpers off in my time, I’d suggest the impact is at the edge of the bumper crash bar, internal impact would be seen by removing the carpet trim.
Firking woman, she was either texting, applying face slap or eating her breakfast no doubt!

While my car was parked at Newcastle airport just before Christmas I came back to this scrape and damaged headlight.. Thankfully the woman who caught my car left details. This was just a 'scrape' but the bill for a new headlight, new bumper, etc etc was £6400 :yikes: all paid by her insurance. Now I am sure this partly a 6 series tax and because I insisted that it go to BMW but still.. front bumper.jpg

Jeez, a new headlight, bumper and paint wouldn't cost that much surely? Was car hire included in the cost?

There were about 25 things included on the invoice including a new headlight washer, new parking sensors, new badge, grills so it was a substantial list of bits in the end. But yes I had a 630i GT for 2 weeks so that was also included in that cost.

When I had a woman pull out on me a new bumper, wing, bonnet and headlight with all the bits and modules to go with it was £15K. Now I benefit from better paint on the from bumper and more resistant to chips.

Ed, I think your insurers will definitely have issues with someone else insuring the car as they will want to pass the cost to them. I actually thought it was not possible to insure a car with two different policies?

Sod's law strikes again! These things often happen at the worst time, as in your case, just before you change it.
It must be infuriating, but the only positive is that no one was injured. I would suspect mobile phone use if it was on the passenger seat.

If she was a young inexperienced driver that would also be a factor. The chance of them having an accident within the first couple of years is quite high, although that obviously does not apply to everyone. I passed my previous Golf on to my son-in-law, who only started driving when he was about 30 years old - he has no interest in cars except for transport. Within the first couple of years, he had two minor accidents, running into stationary traffic ahead. No mobile phone involved - just lack of concentration and being distracted (my daughter in the passenger seat ).

That does look like a substantial impact. I sincerely hope that the woman's insurance pick up the bill. From what others have said, it won't be cheap, being a BMW. Did you get a witness, or a dash-cam in operation? It's not unusual for the guilty party to shift the blame.

I hope that you have a good outcome. (y)
