Just rung my local dealer for a price for an oil and filter change ONLY.

Very specific at start of conversation, I simply want the old oil removing, oil filter removing and replacing, and new oil adding.

I do not want the CBS reset, I do not want any other work doing, i do not want the car washing or vacuuming . Just change the oil and filter.

Oh yes sir I understand, oil and filter change, that will be £291.00 !!

Having picked myself up of the floor, the advisor then starts trying to tell me the cost of the microfilter etc that will need changing (no it doesn't, and I specifically asked just for oil and oil filter change) oh I'm so sorry sir I've quoted you for an oil service !!

Eventually he quotes £89.90 if I provide the oil.

They would charge over £25 A lit're for oil and a Labour rate of £151 per hour !

Why is it every time you speak to BMW service departments they come across as a gang of thieves ?

They're hoping you think £291 is 'reasonable'! :ROFLMAO:

I took my last car in for an MOT as it was on offer for £30 - so thought I'd at least get a couple of coffees out of it. They phoned me back saying it needed new front brake discs, would I want to pay £300?
Considering I knew the car inside out and knew it didn't need them - and also that the citnow video said it had passed - I stopped him in his tracks. He then apologised and said he'd read the wrong job sheet.

That old one! Did you ask how the 'wrong' job sheet had your contact details on it......?

Yes I did wonder John, sadly as MOTs are electronic the online MOT database recorded a fail :banghead: and then a pass of course once he submitted it correctly.

    Wrong dealers!

I've had an interim oil change without a CBS reset at my dealer. The last one on the 535i was £155 inc. VAT. They also carried out the BMW 'health check' in that price. Thought it was very reasonable, "for a BMW dealer".

I'm running out of dealers !
All 3 within an hours drive have shown themselves to be dishonest or incompetent in the last few years.
That's three different dealer groups !

If I was just having an oil and filter changed without resetting the CBS I would look at getting it done at an indy which should be much cheaper:)

    So would I !

But it's the wife's car, and in hopeful expectation of a peaceful life her wishes need to be taken into account

I've got a quote from an Indy that I would use BUT it's not my car...and she will want a copy of the invoice !

Greetings mach one, I tried to get that £129 offer on the BMW UK web site last week when my 330D was in for its first MOT, brake fluid change and end of warranty inspection. I was told my car was not eligible. It is a special offer for cars over 4 years old and is only valid until 31/12/2018. I was quoted £229 for oil and filter service so I did an interim change myself.

That is the price that comes up for My 2015 5GT when i use my registration and mileage online, my car is registered march 2015 so a few months short of the four years, BMW do offer value service for cars older than four years but if you are seeing the £129.00 oil and filter price when you put your details into book a service then i would be sat at the service advisors desk arguing the toss

if i book an online offer like this i always do a screen grab and then print the page to take with me, on my old car i booked the car in for front discs and pads for £299.00, when i was given the bill it was nearer £500.00 so i said hang on the quote was £299 only to be told that the £299.00 is prices from

so out came a print out of the screen grab that clearly showed your quote is £299.00 and no mention of prices from so half an hour sat at the desk talking with the service advisor and then the service manager and my invoice was reduced by £200.00

Great tip about the screen grab mach one, thank you!

I have just done an online quote by clicking on the £129 BMW oil service link and it came out the same as the local dealer quote i.e. £229 not £129... so on THIS occasion it would appear that the service manager was not misleading...

Spoke to my local dealer today, from who between us we have bought 3 new BMWs in the last 10 years. Eventually they offered Labour and filter for £60, and I provide the oil.....but earliest they can book any service work is January 14th.

Went back to the dealer who offered £89.90 to see when they could do it. First service advisor claims he can't find the quote and they would never allow me to provide my own oil and have never done so. Eventually got through to someone I've dealt with before. He had no problem finding the quote, and was quite happy for me to provide the oil.

And they want us to pay £150 an hour for this level of service !

after reading your post i did a bit of digging and found this

    BMW Value Service
Your BMW is our pride and joy too.

The care and attention to detail exhibited by our technicians is guided by unmatched knowledge and expert skills. Designed specifically for BMW models three years and older, the BMW Value Service uses only Genuine BMW Parts and provides perfectly tailored solutions, ensuring that your pride and joy gets the service it deserves. All at a price lower than you might expect.

that could account for the difference as my car is coming up to four years old they are quoting Value Service pricing, and for your car it has not made it into the value servicing window just yet
