well i went up to Shrewsbury today to collect my car from Perfect Polish on the Battlefield Enterprise Park, the car has been with Scott and Lance for the last few days for the ultimate new car protection detail and here it is in all its stunning glory basking in the Shropshire sunshine and now some Reflection porn, the sun certainly makes the blue pop some interior shots wheels also coated inside and out with a ceramic coating and for the forum member that likes to see an engine bay shot, no work carried out here but worth posting a picture anyway a big thanks to Scott and Lance at Perfect polish Shrewsbury for all your hard work, you have done a stunning job and i am really pleased with it considering the car is only 18 months old and covered only 10,000 miles the swirl marks and holograms were truly shocking, the car now looks it best and i look forward to keeping it looking great in the months to come
Your car looks great, Perfect Polish look to have done a great job ,what coating have you had applied?
Thanks Chris, it has had two coats of carpro Cquartz on the paint, and R-Evolve X ceramic on the wheels
wow - looks great!!!! I keep considering getting my 2012 F30 320d ED done as I know it needs it... this makes me want to get it done even more lol Kev
A proper detail makes a stunning difference to a car [like yours is now ], even though most folk would think it was fine pre the work. It's nothing you couldn't do yourself if you were prepared to allocate time for it, even if you had to do a bit at a time ;)
go on kev you wont be dissapointed When i bought the car the dealer was offering the BMW Protect X system for a few quid under £400.00 and i declined with the intention of using this money on a proper detail, the paint looked good but on close inspection there was a lot of swirl marks especially on the B pillars and the bonnet and for £400.00 the dealer would have put an expensive paint treatment over the swirls, and for not much more money my car has far more TLC than the dealers would have given it
I would happily have done it myself and i have all the kit for a correction polish, DAS 6 pro good selection of Hex logic pads and a selection of correction polish but i wouldn't have been happy applying the two coats of ceramic outside and i don't have access to an inside space suitable for such work I now have a detailing bag full of polish, sprays and other goodies that i cant use on the ceramic coating, it is wash only and then an occasional top up with reload
It is a lovely colour that changes at different times of day, in the sunlight the blue really shows up but when i got home it was overcast and raining and the missus said it is very shiny but it looks darker than it was before and then as it nears dusk it looks nearly black I also Love the seats, first time having the Comfort seats and they are very nice, i now see why people rave about them
the V5 for the new car has hit the mat this morning so as soon as the DVLA opens on monday i will be putting my personal number on the car the dealer said that they would do it for me but i wanted to get the deal done and the car collected when i was on leave so i had the time to run about sorting things out
Looking great! I'd be very pleased with that indeed. Lovely looking car and absolutely stunning colour too.
lol i'm an expert swirl maker - never been able to not make them no matter what i do, always appears hence i never washed my car since I've had it for fear or ruining it even more! I'm definitely considering getting it done, thinking of going to http://www.offsetdetailing.com/ but not sure, thinking maybe near xmas might get it done. Kev
how do you get your car washed then ? service wash at the dealers can be a real lottery as far as swirls and other damage goes, I had a BMW main dealer jetwash the clearcote off my front bumper i suspect sticking the spray lance straight on the paint to blast away bugs with disastrous results and did they bother to tell me? no i found out when i got home, I allowed the dealer to wash my silver cars as they hide or mask the swirls well and they are there but don't show but they will never wash this car and the same would apply for black or any dark colour if you do go for a professional correction detail and have a ceramic coating it will make the car more resistant to light scratches and swirls, I see the guy you linked to offers Carpro Cquartz which is what i had applied and he also offers Gtechniq ceramic coatings both of which are very good and i would say it will offer a good two years protection I would say don't be afraid to wash your car just adopt a good technique using two buckets grit guards and a good wash mitt http://www.saverschoiceuk.com/autom.../100-natural-wool-wash-mitt-double-sided.html somthing like that is about the same cost as one wash with the road side car wash warriors, I know some people just don't like washing their own cars and are more than happy to have a local carwash place do it for them
I was gutted when it started raining halfway home and around here they have been doing a lot of harvesting around here so there is plenty of mud on the roads
Yeah - i was thinking the umm gtechniq as it says lasts 3-5 years. Was going to get leather and wheels protected too. I tried washing with 2 bucket methode, lamb wool mits - you name it - results the same.... On my focus i washed with 2 bucket method with meguires car shampoo and i a while back i bought some other shampoo in smaller bottle but was recommended.. dodo juice, can't recall exact one without gong to check and its raining atm lol , lambs wool mit and leather afterwards - same results.. could see some swirl marks hence i pretty much gave up, I bought a load of drying towls but never used them for fear of swirls/marks on the bmw just didn't sit well lol. At the moment i have a friend of the family who does bit of mobile valeting and he comes round as needed and washes it inside and out for around £20, does a really good job as well. In between that my dad washes it from time to time and when it goes in for servicing they wash it as standard at BMW (still in 5yr service plan). So car isn't deglected and left dirty for weeks on end, just I don't wash it for fear or damaging it... sheer thought of taking it to a detailer and being told yeah loads of swirl makrs will need few days to take out or whatever and knowing i put them there... not ideal.. so this way i can blame someone else lol I was going to try the drying towls out on my dads car (Focus) but he changed it for a new focus so don't want to ruin that as its a dark colour as well and will stand out. My car is silver so i can see light scratches on body work if i get the right light but as you say, they don't stand out as such being silver My last idea was to get a pressure washer and use that to was the car and the use the towels to dry it off but not bought one yet, considering getting one later on though as be useful for pathways, patio etc as well as the car. Even see the air force blaster and considered that but for the price, think its a bit OTT tbh but if used pressure washer to was and that to dry - no swirl marks hopefully but as said bit expensive just for washing the car, hard to justify the cost let alone how long before it earns the money Kev
a good wash practice is to get as much dirt off the car as you can before you do any contact washing, I am not a big fan of jet washers on the car but do use them for certain jobs but always with a wide fan spray rather than the tornado jet spray you get with some washers I have a PH citrus pre wash that i use in a pump spray for bug splatter and dirt up the sides of the car leave to dwell and wash off after five minutes, i only do this if the car is very dirty but if not skip straight to snow foam, snow foam the whole car and then rinse the car and if i am happy that most of the car is clean i then use a wool mitt and wash from the top down and with my bodywork mit i only go down to the bottom of the doors and then use a different mitt for the sills and lower bumpers and again different mitt for the wheels which is a microfibre rather than wool as for drying I would never use a leather on my car but always use drying towels but again how you use it goes a good way to keeping it looking good, i either lay the towel flat on the panel and draw it from front to back on the panel or lay out the towel and pat it dry but i never rub with a drying towel, I also have a smaller towel that i use on the lower parts of the car so your towel is not dragging on the drive and through the dirt
drying towels are good, you pat the car dry rather than wiping this will inflict less damage. By using a powerwasher you could get a snowfoam lance and use the foam as a prewash which will help lift dirt particles away from paint and rinse off before washing with the 2 bucket method with grit gaurds in place. Have a look on detailing world for plenty of hints and tips from very experianced detailers and enthusiasts alike
Thanks all. I have the wash mits but no doubt need a couple of new ones now as the ones i got had a few years now. I have loads of drying towls from big ones (monster/chemical guys i think) to small ones, i got them ages ago with good intentions to give it all a go but then didn't... even bought some disposable gloves and i think a wheel brush for the wheels somewhere LOL I have 2 buckets, they are clean buckets but old buckets my dad has had so the grit guards don't really fit that well tbh, the bucket is too big and the guard just slides around lol. I've always washed from the top down. Yeah with the pressure washer was planning on using that with a spay rather than a high powered water to avoid flattening paint etc. I even bought a sprayer i could attach to a hose but never got round to using it but plan is to use pressure washer i think, be easier. I seen snow foam lances, i guess these are best used with the car on the street as opposed to the drive to stop it marking the drive? Drive has only been re-done year or so and don't want to mark it lol Kev
